Now We Wait For The Other Shoe To Drop
Where is the cap space for Smith coming from? The obvious move or ???
They can still convert Hunters bonus, so that is probably gonna be part of it.
In a daft salary cap maneuver, Brez converts Spielman’s & Zimmer’s salary’s to termination bonuses, opening up double secret cap money. Putting the cap myth on full display once again… ;) :p
So does this spell the end of Hunter? Or will he get tried at OLB/DE?

They shouldn't have to make another move to sign Smith to his deal. The 1st year cap hit will be around $5-6M. Once they file Thielen's restructure and sign Mannion they can ink Smith and still sit about $1.5-$1.6M under the cap. Eventually they'll have to make another move.

Hey @"Geoff Nichols" , hearing anything on our interior OL possibilities…?
@"JustinTime18™" said:Huge news. As big as the Smith signing. I don't think they can trade him now. The cap hit would be outrageous. They must feel pretty good that he is not going to hold out once he has his $18.5M in hand. The Vikings’ new pass rush duo of Danielle Hunter and Za’Darius Smith is already working together, as Minnesota converted Hunter’s $18M roster bonus into a signing bonus, creating $13.5M in 2022 cap space that helps fit Smith into the picture, per source.
Now go get Tretter and a CB (Bates would be nice, too) and put a bow on FA. Get a top CB (or 2) in the draft and we're looking pretty good. This has been a big day for this team.
2022 - $1.9m
2023 - $5.4m
Vikings dead cap - $29.48m
Can we stop the idea he’s going to get traded this offseason - not happening!

We will need to see how the numbers shake out first as the draft is anticipated to cost us $9.5-$10MM in cap space this year. Do something with Kendricks and Cook's contracts and that should put us in a reasonable place to sign at least Tretter.

That officially ends the trade discussion. There was never really a point in adding Za'Darius without Hunter being here since they compliment each other so well.

They could restructure Dalvin Cook & Eric Kendricks to free up another $9.588M in cap space

He's played everywhere but center I think. Started 13 games at RG for the Packers in 2019. RT the last couple seasons.Aaron Rodgers on Billy Turner: "The guy I'm really excited about is Bill, at right guard. Just his presence in the huddle. He's a big dude. And he's a no-nonsense guy. He's been a great addition to that group. As I look across the line, I feel great about those first five."
