Christmas double header and more
NFL EVP for Media Distribution Hans Schroeder announced:
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) March 26, 2024
— There will be a Christmas Day doubleheader, despite it being on a Wednesday. “We've seen really some unprecedented growth."
— Amazon will have a Wild Card playoff game this year.
— The #Eagles season opener in Brazil…
You're only given a little spark of madness. You mustn't lose it. — Robin Williams
What? A double header on Wednesday? It must be reruns.
Not a good idea in the entire bunch. Standard league money grab that's not in the best interest of the game
In my opinion it is beyond greedy and disrespectful to play games on Christmas and to go out of their way to do it on a Wednesday is so over the top disgusting of the NFL, a new low for them.
Definitely greedy, but how in the world are they going to pull this off? These 4 teams may have to play on the Saturday before. Even then they won't be happy playing on 4 days rest.
its all in the name of players safety.... so so sick of hearing that shit from the league. sure its no different than playing Sunday and then Thursday, but damn the league is sucks sometimes. oh well, still better than the NBA.
Yet....many people will watch. Many.
Christmas is an interesting holiday as its really for kids. The morning they open presents and then what? Hell, many people celebrate Christmas mostly on Christmas Eve.
From about 11 am on, people sit around and do what? Yeah, watch TV. The NFL knows this. The NBA plays a triple header on Christmas many times. You can rage against the machine, but TVs will be on. The strangest part is it falls on a Wednesday, but the NFL really doesn't care. But they do love their money.
And how we all disliked the game Peacock the streaming service had this past year: number show 72% KEPT their subscription going. So that shit isn't going away, sans the Amazon playoff game.
If it's an afternoon/early evening double header I can see it flying, most people I know get together with family for dinner and won't have a tv blaring for a noon game on Christmas day, maybe unless it's their teams game of the week, at best for me would be DVR for watching later instead of a later game.

Same scenario.

We typically only have the noon game on during the turkey day meal if the Vikes play the Lions.@"JimmyinSD" said: If it's an afternoon/early evening double header I can see it flying, most people I know get together with family for dinner and won't have a tv blaring for a noon game on Christmas day, maybe unless it's their teams game of the week, at best for me would be DVR for watching later instead of a later game. @"JimmyinSD" said:Your viewpoint is anecdotal. Christian families have a holy day....its Sunday. Oh yeah, the NFL plays on Sunday. Not sure why Christmas would be different. I sincerely doubt Christian football fans won't watch NFL football because its Christmas Day. 'Yay, Baby Jesus was born.....awesome. Let's pray. Ok, what network has the first NFL game?'@"StickyBun" said:Not for many Christian families it isnt. I'm sure there will be plenty tuning in for a noin game, but likely more that won't. Later in the day.. things change, but Christmas dinner is usually pretty sacred still for many.@"JimmyinSD" said:Your viewpoint is anecdotal. Christian families have a holy day....its Sunday. That isn't my point. Last year, Christmas games were one of the best days they had all year. That will continue, that's my point. And 2.8 million other people watched the NBA on Christmas. Everyone has the day off, families are in town visiting, etc. it all means butts in seats watching TV. So it isn't just 'my house'.
Wednesday football was a thing in the 1920's. Now, again a thing in the 2020's. =)

As a combat veteran who did multiple tours on the front lines in the great War on Christmas, I feel uniquely qualified to say that Christmas is a great day for football.
