Ed Sharockman passes away at age 77
The Minnesota Vikings lost one of their fabled originals over with the passing of cornerback Ed Sharockman – one of the original Vikings and a member of the 50 Greatest Vikings team. Sharockman, 77, died of congestive heart failure.
A star at the University of Pittsburgh, Sharockman was selected in the fifth round of the Vikings’ inaugural draft – as well as being drafted by the Dallas Texans of the AFL.
Sharockman chose the Vikings and would play 12 years with the team, making his mark as a veteran leader of Bud Grant’s Super Bowl vintage teams of the early 1970s. He remains third in franchise history with 40 interceptions, behind only Hall of Famer Paul Krause and Bobby Bryant.
