A place for NFCN Trades/Rumors only. Let's keep them all in one place. Makes it easier to keep track of our rivalries.

If you want to start a thread about an NFCN blockbuster trade for immediate notice, GREAT! (As I did with the Bears/Titans) It will get merged into this one after a bit though. I hope you all oaky with this.

Thanks everyone 😊

Why the Vikings’ trade deadline pursuit coincides with key decisions looming for 2027

EAGAN, Minn. — Every NFL regime operates on a strict timeline. Owners plan when to spend and how much. Front offices consider the length of contracts and how to put together the 53-man jigsaw puzzle of a roster. Coaches know they must establish their culture in short order.

All of these dynamics are intertwined. They affect personnel decisions, free-agent choices and trades.

This brings us to the Minnesota Vikings’ current setup. They have an ownership group that cut year-over-year cash spending on the roster by tens of millions of dollars, according to Over The Cap, after seasons of excess pay to try to maximize results. But simultaneously, they have a veteran group of players built to win now with a superstar receiver in Justin Jefferson who’s floundering in the prime of his career.

The leadership situation only adds to the complexity. Head coach Kevin O’Connell is in his fifth season and still doesn’t have a playoff victory, while general manager Nolan Teasley is in his first year with an eye on creating sustainable winning for the long term.

Because of these conflicting factors, what the team will do ahead of next week’s trade deadline remains a mystery. Make major moves, and the front office will be stealing from the future for the present. Punt on improving this 6-1 team in an already loaded NFC, and the Vikings will set themselves up for another disappointing postseason exit in front of a fanbase champing at the bit for positive results.

“We’re going to have to really gauge what’s best for our team in the present day, and that’s with a lot of confidence in our group,” O’Connell said.

Any acquisition(s) in the next seven days will speak to the team’s willingness to invest in this season. The Vikings monitored the availability of likely Hall of Fame guard Quenton Nelson but passed (he was traded to the Seattle Seahawks). They continue to evaluate all potential opportunities.

Accounting for depth and performance, they could still benefit from improvements at running back, guard, tight end and defensive tackle.

Minnesota has made calls on several of the sensible trade candidates. The team owns an extra third-rounder, fifth-rounder and sixth-rounder. These are all reasonable trade chips — except for the cold, hard truth that the Vikings’ minimal spending on rookies almost requires that the team maintain a chunk of its draft capital to offset potential losses of starters this offseason.

“It feels crazy to say this as the coach,” O’Connell said, “but I want to make sure that we’re as smart as possible just because I have so much confidence in what (the front office) and Nolan, specifically, are going to be able to do when it comes time to add to our team in the offseason.”

This brings us to one of the underdiscussed but critical aspects of the team’s present circumstances. Key defensive contributors such as linebacker Blake Cashman, cornerback Isaiah Rodgers, edge rusher Andrew Van Ginkel and defensive tackle Jalen Redmond are all destined to become free agents.

There is also uncertainty at running back, tight end, center, receiver and on special teams. Former first-round picks Dallas Turner and Jordan Addison will also be eligible for big extensions this offseason, another layer to consider. Paying premiums on huge trade additions would further complicate the path to securing essential components of this team.

If the Vikings had a prototypical franchise quarterback, it might be easier to budget for all of these possible extensions or departures. But they don’t. The hole at the most important position persists. Finding a QB may require another high draft pick, which has to be considered in any move. That route — or spending serious money on a free-agent signing — will inspire more cascading effects.

All of this underscores the delicate nature of the time period. Any assets pulled from forthcoming seasons add to the pressure on this team. Decline to provide any massive reinforcements, and it will become even more difficult to contend with a defense that is not guaranteed to maintain its dominance into next season.

The Vikings are already punching well above their weight. The only teams spending less cash on their 2026 roster are the Los Angeles Chargers and Miami Dolphins, according to Spotrac. Those teams have a combined 1-13 record.

For the Vikings brass, assessing how far to go to supplement this team is an exercise in weighing patience versus aggression. The results will offer perhaps the clearest indication of how Teasley and the front office view team-building and resource allocation.

Perhaps he shared some hints in his opening remarks with the Minnesota media when he was asked what he believed was most important as the Seahawks transitioned from one core group of players to another without bottoming out.

“It was understanding what you have in the building and building around that,” he said in June. “So, just having a really good understanding of what your strengths are and continuing to build around that while building through the draft and supplementing the roster through free agency.”

By now, the Vikings’ strengths have become apparent. Surrounding them in a way that does not prevent this front office from building through the draft feels like the path they’re most likely to take.

It seems the prudent solution would be to take like 3 of those first 4 fellas off the board before that transpires, no…!? 🤔

Cricket -

1st of that list I think the players - Redmond may be the only absolute must sign- however we have some good depth at the DT position as well. I would like to do Van Ginkel but we may have drafted his replacement as well in Golday, Black Cashman and Isaiah Rodgers are likely priorities as well. We will have to sign a QB and RB unless we trade for one or draft one.

However this year we have 57 million in dead cap space. A year that was effectively a reset cap year has become a potential year to go all in. The Vikings currently have $37.7 million available before cuts. Will Fries appears to be a potential cut. I am not sure I am a fan of paying addison 18 million on his 5th year option. But that is done. Re-doing Jefferson contract is likely the best way to create more salary cap.

My primary target would be Mac Jones and I’d be working on getting it done asap. It’s possible that is exactly what they were doing with the Jennings trade that was nixed, but they must get it done. It’s going to take a new guy a little time to acclimate. If he could match JJM’s ability to learn a new system in 2 to 3 weeks, we’d be in much better shape.

I like Mac Jones as the target, because I think he’d be good in this system. He’s a rhythm and timing pocket passer for the most part. He’s very similar to Sam Darnold in his strengths. Plus, he could prove to be a long term solution and this would be an excellent way to find out without having to start with a big free agent contract.

To me, this is a no brainer. You have an extra 3rd and 5th. I understand it’s tough to give up much for a short term “rental”, but sometimes you have to take a chance to move forward or at worst, learn ahead of time a big free agent contract would have been a very bad idea.

You must be a Bears fan. It would take an epic collapse for the Vikings to miss the postseason.

Not as far fetched as you might think. We lose on Monday and we will be tied with the other 2 in the division with the bears in 1st.

Id say right now, despite 6-1, most polls would have us as the worst team in our division.

If we get three teams in and the West gets 2, someone is going to be the odd man out and its completely possible we lose our next 3 games.

Coaches should have a pretty good idea of what they have. The majority of the capital was spent on the defensive side. I would completely trust whatever Brian Flores is saying. I think they are still pretty happy with Golday, Orange and Banks. All 3 were drafted for their upside. Just like Dallas Turner. Just because they don't show up in Flores defense the first year doesn't mean they won't be good. It just means they are acclimating to the defense. You add in both Thomas's and Demmings - I think we have ample depth and upside in the system.

At this point I think we keep the 1st and 2nd, and I may say the max potential we give up is both 3rd round draft picks. That gives us 3 5th rounders, and 3 6th for maneuverability in the mid rounds.

It's basically crunch time, with a week until the NFL trade deadline.

Deals must be made by Nov. 10, the day after Minnesota hosts Monday Night Football against Buffalo. Last week, there were several significant moves within the Vikings conference: Chicago acquired All-Pro defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons, who was super disruptive for the Bears in their double-digit win over the Seahawks last night; Seattle landed perennial Pro Bowl guard Quenton Nelson; and San Francisco brought back veteran d-lineman DeForest Buckner, a 49ers draft pick.

There's bound to be more roster movement across the league, which is why we're highlighting a trade deadline big board — version 2.0 — rolled out Tuesday by The Athletic's Daniel Popper.

Popper detailed 50 trade targets. The bulk of names match his first iteration, but there are changes that reflect recent results, such as the inclusion of more Eagles players after their sixth consecutive loss, and the removal of Bucs players since they're shaping up to be real contenders in the NFC South. We will note the positions and players that Popper projected as "fits" for Minnesota.

He linked the Vikings to five position groups and 16 players. We included some context.

Running back: Jonathan Taylor, Colts (No. 1 in Popper's ranking); Breece Hall, Jets (7); Tony Pollard, Titans (25); Tyjae Spears, Titans (43)

Minnesota's offense ranks 27th in rushing EPA at minus-28.4, which is a big decline from 2025 (minus-14.7) according to Next Gen Stats. Co-starters Aaron Jones, Sr., and Jordan Mason (three games) have nine and five carries for 10-plus yards. Quarterback Kyler Murray has five, as well.

Meanwhile, Taylor has 18 rushes for 10 or more, Hall has five (three games), Pollard has 13 and Spears has two on only 18 attempts. Taylor rushed for 95 yards and a TD against the Vikings in Week 7.

Defensive line: Moro Ojomo, Eagles (3); Grover Stewart, Colts (13); Roy Lopez, Cardinals (31); Zach Sieler, Dolphins (35); Dalvin Tomlinson, Chargers (49)

The Vikings interior defensive line is young and performing well in Defensive Coordinator Brian Flores' scheme, which generates most of its pass rush via blitzing linebackers and edge rushers.

Ojomo ranks tied for seventh in QB pressures this season (19) among players aligned at DT, per NGS. Stewart blocked a field goal against the Vikings and is a patented run defender. Lopez played for Detroit last season and teamed with Vikings CB Byron Murphy, Jr., in high school. Sieler was signed by Miami during Flo's first season as the Fins head coach, and he posted back-to-back 10-sack seasons in 2023-24 and notched two in Week 4 at U.S. Bank Stadium. Tomlinson, 32, was part of Minnesota's defenses in 2021-22, tallying 81 tackles and five sacks across 29 games.

Tight end: Juwan Johnson, Saints (12); Dallas Goedert, Eagles (37); Noah Fant, Saints (39)

T.J. Hockenson's numbers are up from a year ago, and he's already matched his 2024-25 TD count. There's minimal experience behind him, though, after elite run-blocking tight end Josh Oliver tore his biceps in Week 3 and is anticipated to miss the rest of the regular season. Second-year players Gavin Bartholomew and Ben Yurosek have flashed good run-after-the-catch skills in recent games.

Johnson, Goedert and Fant are veterans with productive seasons under their belts. The former caught 77 passes for 889 yards in 2025; Goedert scored 11 touchdowns last season; and Fant owns four seasons with at least 500 receiving yards, with his latest occurring in 2024 on the Seahawks.

Fant, by the way, played for Seattle from 2022-24 under the front office that included Vikings General Manager Nolan Teasley. Additionally, he was college teammates at Iowa with Hockenson.

Offensive line: Cesar Ruiz, Saints (14); Tyler Steen, Eagles (19); Landon Dickerson, Eagles (24)

Starting left guard and 2025 first-round pick Donovan Jackson tore his meniscus in Week 4, forcing 2025 undrafted free agent Joe Huber into the lineup. Huber is physical and consistently improving, but he was previously serving as a swing player who could fill in at either guard position or center.

Ruiz, a 2020 first-round pick, has started games at right guard and center, whereas Steen has manned both guard spots and Dickerson has experience at all three roles in the interior triangle.

Quarterback: Mac Jones, 49ers (40)

Murray is dealing with hamstring soreness following the Vikings first loss of the season at Detroit. He entered the concussion protocol in Week 1 after 11 snaps, and he missed Week 2 before returning at Tampa Bay. Murray has clipped 65% of his throws for 1,022 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions so far this season. He also has 29 rushing attempts for 167 yards (5.8 avg.).

Carson Wentz hit 59% of his passes for 276 yards and three scores in Weeks 1-2.

The 2021 first-round pick Jones started eight games for San Francisco in 2025, relieving injured starter Brock Purdy, and went 5-3 with a near 70% completion rate, 2,151 passing yards and 13 touchdowns to six interceptions. Jones is 25-32 with an 86.9 passer rating over 57 career starts.

I had this same conversation with @JIT over the last month...He was also pimping Mac Jones. At the time, I was more in the camp of seeing what we have in 9 than a trade with SF on their back-up.

We may not have a choice now and u could be right in that he's the best choice in a pool of non-elites. But they'll need someone to bridge till whatever rook may take over in 2+ seasons from now.

I dont think SF will do us any favors this season, especially with us playing them in 2 weeks.

I wish that upcoming QB class was as strong as we had hoped this Spring. I think the real work is going to be who is worthy/fit Day 2?

Day 1 might be clear-cut (and lean pickings.)
