I think it’s one of those picks that you can see both sides of the situation from.  They probably should be trying to maximize their current super bowl window, but they’re never going to be bad enough to pick a top QB prospect, so they’ll have to take it at some point in time when one falls to wherever they are.  How often are QBs available in the 20’s?  Also a risk is that after their last SB, McVay was ready to bounce.  I think you have to consider him a flight risk that would rather switch teams than deal with the process of rebuilding a team by breaking it down and building it back up, so I think it’s good insurance to have the next guy developing before Stafford retires, which is a threat every year.  I don’t think Simpson would have lasted to their next pick.

I thought Simpson looked really good at times last year and could see him as a potential legit QB, however Rams were close to going to Super Bowl last year and their window is now. They had a chance to get one of the best players in the draft in Lemon and another target for Stafford. Think they may have sacrificed a player who could have put them over the top now for someone with low possibility of being their future QB. As a legit contender think the move was to focus on winning now.

This was THE SHOCKER of the first rd, followed by Banks...I would have bet the farm they were going to take Lemon and this was b4 the draft even started.

IT was gift wrapped for them; one more weapon with their last year of Stafford and a SB window wide open.

Simpson is gonna feel like poor KC did back in 2018 with Zimsu.

This is also reminiscent of how Rogers felt when they drafted Love instead of another weapon at the time.
