Vikings, Aaron Jones agree to move void date
Posted by: Kentis - 02-15-2025, 09:56 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (4)

The Vikings have a little more time to work out a way to avoid taking on dead money from running back Aaron Jones’s contract under their 2025 cap.

Jones signed a one-year deal with the team last year, but it included a void year to spread out the cap hit. The contract was set to void on Monday, but Field Yates of ESPN reports that the Vikings and Jones have agreed to push the void date back to March 11. That’s one day before the start of the new league year.

If Jones’s contract voids, there will be a dead cap hit of $3.2 million for the Vikings. Pushing the date back gives the two sides a chance to work on an extension that would keep the Vikings from incurring that charge.

Jones ran 255 times for 1,138 yards and five touchdowns in 2024 while catching 51 passes for 408 yards and another score.

Where do negotiations begin? Where would a team slot him in re: cap, personnel grouping?  It'll be interesting to see how a franchise manages all that.

VIP's Big Boy Serves a Nuclear Dumbass Burger!

I know the usual wave-offs and insistence that it's just a little "oopsie" will inevitably follow, from the usual suspects...
...but hey, it's just our nuclear arsenal's safety! President (oops) DOGE-dumbass-in-chief should do the f***ing reading before the huge layoffs.
It's kinda like there's been warnings about this level of...just utterly shameful, sub-moronic, stupidly-enabled, power mongering. Hmmm!

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/embarr...r-AA1z6ZvO

'The National Nuclear Safety Administration is now dealing with the repercussions of this "massive mistake", which has raised security concerns, as per reports. Insiders confided to CNN that the workers were let go because "no one had taken any time to understand what we do and the importance of our work to the nation's national security".'

(yes, this story is on MANY agencies, so the "fAeK noOz" collective will have piles to spray denials about!)

IN FIVE NFL seasons, primarily with Darnold and Cousins as his quarterbacks, Jefferson has made two playoff appearances. The Vikings are 0-2 in those games. But Jefferson, 25, has been so consistently productive during that time that few realize the gravity of his early-career accomplishments: He is the only player in NFL history to have more than one 1,500-yard season before the age of 26. He has three.

As wild as it might sound, the 2024 campaign was a slog at times, as Jefferson spent training camp familiarizing himself with Darnold and McCarthy, who likely would have gotten on the field at some point had he not suffered a meniscus injury in his right knee that sidelined him for the season. The Vikings attempted the second-fewest passes in a season during Jefferson's career (548, 18th the NFL), and he went without a touchdown reception in more consecutive games (six) than ever before.

There were multiple games in which Darnold did not target Jefferson until the second quarter, and there was one -- Week 10 in Jacksonville -- when he threw three interceptions while trying to force the ball Jefferson's way. But Jefferson accomplished his first goal for 2024, playing in all 17 games while participating in a career-high 93.5% of the offense's snaps after a right hamstring tear cost him seven games in 2023.

Jefferson is headed toward playing with at least his fifth -- and possibly sixth -- different quarterback since the start of the 2023 season. He caught passes from Cousins, Joshua Dobbs, Nick Mullens, Jaren Hall and Darnold in 27 games during that period, and the Vikings' 2025 starter remains undetermined.

The Vikings could bring back Darnold, turn the keys over to McCarthy or sign a different veteran to play until McCarthy is ready. Jefferson, however, has repeatedly declined to weigh in on the QB carousel despite the lack of continuity.

"It doesn't really matter to me," he said the day after the Vikings' wild-card loss to the Los Angeles Rams. "It's not really something that I'm making a big deal about. Whoever they decide to either bring back or to have in this locker room, we've got to make it work, and we've got to do whatever it takes to get a Super Bowl."

  Interesting times in Cinci...

$45mm in cap space

Burrow's recent media tour at Super Bowl LIX featured several of his thoughts about how Cincinnati should approach a very important offseason.

Higgins was limited by injuries but is projected to be the No. 1 free agent if he hits the open market, according to ESPN. Chase is coming off a historic triple crown season and was a finalist for Offensive Player of the Year.

Defensive end Trey Hendrickson also wants a new deal after he led the league in sacks and was a finalist for Defensive Player of the Year.

The Cincinnati quarterback praised the way Philadelphia treated the salary cap to build a championship-caliber team. "The Eagles are paying everybody," Burrow said. "That seems like the way. Whatever they're doing."

I dont believe we have authority to annex Gaza
Posted by: purplefaithful - 02-11-2025, 02:45 PM - Forum: Sensitive Topics - Replies (5)

Stream of consciousness:

I do think the prez believes this is truly whats best for the region and Palestinians
I do think he believes its inhumane to send anyone back to the pile of rubble as it is (and he's right)

I do not support turning Gaza into the Rivera Middle East, it belongs to the Palestinians - not Americans
I dont think there will be any Arab or European support, we'll be alone with Israel on it.
No Arab leader could publicly support this w/out significant backlash from each other and their people.
I dont think most Americans would want US troops in the middle of all of this or would be comfortable turning into US turf

Its surprising to me that a Populist president would float the idea of our troops in that hot spot for what seems like a longer period of time

This all may be a bargaining tactic for a totally different outcome
 - The art of the deal seems to be the zeitgeist of how to conduct GeoPolitics for now.

J. Kushner (a # of years ago) floated the idea of how valuable Gaza is, I think it resonated with Trump over the years.

Ive always said, watch what Trump does, dont listen too much to what he says. Again, this could be a bargaining tactic.

"The #Saints are finalizing a deal with Kellen Moore as their new head coach, sources tell The Insiders.
GM Mickey Loomis called other candidates today to deliver the news. At age 36, coming off a Super Bowl win with the #Eagles, Moore gets his shot to run the show."

OC from a Superbowl winning team. Just 36 years old (KOC was also 36 years old when hired by Minnesota). KOC hired 3 days after winning the Superbowl, Moore hired 2 days after.

Not one Viking thread on Page 1. More nuts than a fruitcake. So this is where some went to after this board....some of those threads are mind-blowing. Good riddance, JFC.
