  Darnold is currency. Use it.

On March 17th, 2021, a year after drafting Jalen Hurts, the Eagles traded Carson Wentz and won a Super Bowl with the return. I know he's not under contract, but we've got to find a way to get something for Sam Darnold. Extension, tag and trade, whatever it takes. We have our QBOTF. Build McCarthy's surround with the currency you built by rebuilding Sam Darnold. It can be done, but it will take some brass. Somehow I don't think we will.

Wentz was traded for two 3rds; Watson was traded for three 1’s, one 3, two 4’s; Wilson was traded for two 1’s, two 2’s, 3 players; Rodgers was traded for two 2’s. NONE of those players had the kind of year Sam did. What's more, Wentz was horrible (16 TDs, 15 INTs), Watson was facing serious legal issues, Wilson was 34 and Rodgers was 40! Sam won 14 games, made the Pro Bowl and is 27 years old.

Sam Darnold, Stephon Gilmore had their contracts voided
Posted by: Kentis - 02-18-2025, 03:59 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (3)

Sam Darnold, Stephon Gilmore had their contracts voided yesterday, February 17th.

This means that the void years included in their contracts escalate to the 2025 cap. That means 5M for Darnold, 4.2M for Murphy, and 2.33M for Gilmore all count as dead money and would be part of any new contract in 2025. Based on this, I do not see a franchise tag of Murphy but could see an extension although you would have hoped they could have reached an agreement before his contract voided.
My guess is they really want to tag and trade Darnold and the price to keep Murphy has gone too high and Kwesi has said he has “walk away” prices.

Harrison Smith’s deadline to terminate his contract is March 15th. If the team does not terminate his deal, his 25M salary for 2026 becomes guaranteed. I am going to go out on a limb and say that is not going to happen. If he wants to continue playing then I could see them working something out for another season. Maybe 5-7M?

A shark attacked and injured a Canadian tourist as she tried to take its picture in the Turks and Caicos Islands earlier this month, according to local authorities.

The attack occurred the morning of February 7 at a beach on Providenciales, one of the territory’s eastern islands, per a statement from the Royal Turks and Caicos Island Police Force.

“The 55-year-old victim was brought ashore and rushed to the Cheshire Hall Medical Center for treatment,” the police statement said, adding that an investigation into the incident is ongoing.

In a press statement posted on social media, the Caribbean territory’s environmental department said that the tourist “had attempted to engage with the animal from the shallows in an attempt to take photographs.”

“The shark was estimated to be approximately 6ft in length, however the species is yet to be confirmed,” it continued.

I'm all for this if we can fill CB, DT and IOL needs in free agency.

He'll be 32 years old this summer and has a $3.4 million hit against the cap. This has to be a restructure or an outright cut. I really like Hammer, but his role can be done by a much younger and cheaper version....if you even need a FB.

The Los Angeles Rams.

@JoeBeldner

"If Stafford and the Rams part ways... if I were Sam Darnold, I'd be fixated on wanting to be their next QB.

Best landing spot and system for him to extend his career as a starter and benefit from pairing with another offensive genius in Sean McVay and a legit WR1 in Puka Nacua."

McVay will be there to coach him up, good team, etc. The Rams know there isn't a QB in this upcoming Draft worth a shit. Team #1 for Sam Darnold's agent.

Vikings, Aaron Jones agree to move void date
Posted by: Kentis - 02-15-2025, 09:56 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (4)

The Vikings have a little more time to work out a way to avoid taking on dead money from running back Aaron Jones’s contract under their 2025 cap.

Jones signed a one-year deal with the team last year, but it included a void year to spread out the cap hit. The contract was set to void on Monday, but Field Yates of ESPN reports that the Vikings and Jones have agreed to push the void date back to March 11. That’s one day before the start of the new league year.

If Jones’s contract voids, there will be a dead cap hit of $3.2 million for the Vikings. Pushing the date back gives the two sides a chance to work on an extension that would keep the Vikings from incurring that charge.

Jones ran 255 times for 1,138 yards and five touchdowns in 2024 while catching 51 passes for 408 yards and another score.
