  VELSPÁR WEEK 4

Smoked Lion

The 2016 Minnesota Vikings disastrous “second” half of the season included two loses to the Detroit Lions.  I’m sure you all remember as I’m sure the Vikings players all remember.  The Vikings lost at USB stadium in overtime after scoring a go ahead TD with 23 seconds left and pinning the lions deep only to see Lions kicking a 58 yard field goal to tie and force OT.  That was a bitter pill to swallow, especially after out playing the Lions statistically in pretty much every category.  Three weeks later the Vikings would swallow another bitter pill again at the foot of Prater as time ran out spoiling the Vikings Thanksgiving.  Are you pissed off again yet?  I’m pretty sure the Vikings are and remember exactly what it felt like.  The Vikings win one of those games and they would have been in the playoffs.
The 2017 version of the Vikings looks much improved, even with being snakebit with injuries at it’s most key position.  Thiggs and Dielen are #2 and #3 WR’s in the league.  The Vikings running game is cooking and Dalvin has dramatically diversified the Offense.  The offensive line has been been great and a big reason why the Vikings are averaging 400+ yards a game and nearly 500 yards on home turf.  It’s the start of the divisional games and Minnesota is 39-15-1 all time at home vs the Lions.  Look for the Vikings to continue it’s home cooking and smoke the Lions 31-10.

Ex-Viking Mike Harris upbeat despite congenital brain condition forcing retirement
It was typical day during organized-team activities in June 2016, and Vikings guard Mike Harris was battling to keep his starting job. Following a practice, he returned to his home in Eden Prairie to study his iPad.
Suddenly, everything changed for Harris.
“I felt like I was having a stroke,’’ Harris said Tuesday. “I got home and I just remember being on my iPad and my vision went blurry, went double. I couldn’t see.’’
A friend rushed Harris to Winter Park, and he was looked at by Vikings medical personnel with the initial thought it was a concussion. But that wasn’t it.

By then we'll know what we have...Detroit, Chicago and Green Bay will be in the rear view mirror...this is the first truly critical stretch of the season...come out of it 3-0, and we are in good shape with that tough schedule in the second half...anything less than that, it's going to be a really tough row to hoe...

  Red McComb-over....did you know?
Posted by: Vanguard83 - 09-27-2017, 03:26 AM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (5)

That he was in a deleted scene from Adam Sandlers remake of "The longest Yard?"

in the cut scene, he is climbing up the bleachers, and shakes hands with the warden who says,
"hey Red how ya doing"
McCombs responds by saying Paul Crewe looks good out there, they might beat the wardens guards, he then turns away
and the warden says behind his back, "Yeah, well the Vikings suck anyway"

ill see see if I can post the YouTube link, but if interested it's in YouTube under longest yard deleted scenes about 3:40

U.S.B. Stadium’s security company gets sacked...

The security company that has protected U.S. Bank Stadium since its construction was fired Monday following two investigations.
SMG, the group that oversees U.S. Bank Stadium operations, terminated its three-year contract with Monterrey Security, a Chicago-based company, citing a completed independent investigation that revealed some employees weren’t subjected to background checks before their hiring, and some employees weren’t properly trained.

Craig: Vikings' Cook among rookie runners delivering big stats
Posted by: purplefaithful - 09-27-2017, 01:50 AM - Forum: The Longship - No Replies

Week 3 of the NFL season was full of the usual surprises, but one of them wasn’t the continued excellence of a rookie class of running backs that’s living up to its pre-draft hype.
“Great class,” said one of its members, the Vikings’ Dalvin Cook. “The rookie class is doing what they were expected to do.”
And then some.
Twenty-five running backs were drafted this year, including eight in the first three rounds. The sixth guy selected, Toledo’s Kareem Hunt, is having the NFL’s “Holy Toledo!” season while leading the 3-0 Chiefs.
“I talk to Kareem,” Cook said. “He’s a humble guy. Just wants to play football and have fun.”

Three of the league’s top seven rushers are rookies, including Jacksonville’s Leonard Fournette, who is seventh (199).

Five of Pro Football Focus’ top 10-ranked backs are rookies. Hunt (first) and Cook (fourth) are followed by Seattle’s Chris Carson (sixth) and Cincinnati’s Joe Mixon and Chicago’s Tarik Cohen, who are tied for ninth.
