  I support a repeal...

As long as the replacement is better for the people than what we have today...

Wont applaud, celebrate or support a repeal alone.

Mike Zimmer to test handing off play calling duties during a preseason game
Posted by: purplefaithful - 07-25-2017, 04:32 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (1)

McCarthy couldn't do it...Not sure Zimm will either.

The Vikings head coach says he’ll likely let defensive coordinator George Edwards call a preseason game next month to see if that frees up Zimmer to better manage things. There’s still a possibility of that ending this season. The Vikings head coach says he’ll likely let defensive coordinator George Edwards call a preseason game next month to see if that frees up Zimmer to better manage games in his fourth season at the helm.
“I’ll probably have [Edwards] call one in a preseason game and see how it goes,” Zimmer said Tuesday. “I have not decided yet, no, totally for the season, but I think it’d be good practice in the preseason to see how it goes. See if it helps me help other areas of the game, so I’m kind of thinking that way.”

Viking's numbers that should be retired - Thoughts?
Posted by: NorthernCalVike - 07-25-2017, 03:13 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (21)

I have been reading all the threads about the greatest Viking to wear a specific number, and looked up which numbers have been retired. First thought was, if you make the Ring of Honor is your number not retired? Obviously not.

As I was reading about todays number 44 - It made me wonder why his number is not retired - which IMO I think it should be. Currently we have only six numbers retired - all very worthy. I think Chuck's 44 is iconic in Vikings Lore and should not be worn by anyone anymore.

So, with that said, Do you have any numbers you think should be retired for the Vikings? Along with Chuck's 44, these others also come to mind for me as potentials numbers to retire. These five stand out as guys who were amazing players, and have retired many many moons ago and at least 10 years of service. (I know - Chuck did not play here for 10 years min. but come on - ITS CHUCK FOREMAN!!!!)

#81 - Carl Eller - REALLY???? Does this even need to be argued????
#93 - John Randle
#22 - Paul Krause
#64 - Randle McDaniel

his play to open the 2nd half opened up the Viking lead and would lead them to the NFC Championship and a trip to their last Super Bowl (SB XI in January 1977)

Rodney Adams looks to follow in CP’s footsteps as kick returner, playmaker
Posted by: purplefaithful - 07-25-2017, 12:40 AM - Forum: The Longship - No Replies

It took four years for former first-round pick Cordarrelle Patterson to find his niche in Minnesota, then the Vikings decided to let him walk in free agency. They hope to have filled his role as a kicker returner and playmaker on offense in the draft with fifth-round pick Rodney Adams.

This season could define Mike Zimmer’s career as a head coach
Posted by: purplefaithful - 07-25-2017, 12:39 AM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (10)

Mike Zimmer’s last press conference of Minicamp was a reminder of the Good Old Days of his tenure as head coach of the Minnesota Vikings.Zimmer talked for 19 minutes with the same comfort as he would sitting on the back deck in July with charcoal smoke in the air. And despite a salty disposition toward a media he believes turned on him, Zimmer still opened up when asked about perspective he gained reflecting on last season’s collapse.

“It takes awhile to learn how to do this job, it really does,” Zimmer said. “I probably shouldn’t say this, but there’s a guy in New England that’s doing pretty damn good now that might have had a rough start…so that’s kind of my mentality, to continue to grow.”

Often-injured Vikings DB Antone Exum says it’s a ‘blessing’ returning to practice
Posted by: purplefaithful - 07-25-2017, 12:34 AM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (5)

MANKATO _ It wasn’t a typical day for Vikings defensive back Antone Exum. He actually was healthy enough Monday to practice.
It’s been one injury after another the past 1 1/2 years for Exum, entering his fourth NFL season. But he was able to make it through the first day of training camp unscathed.
“It’s a blessing for me because I know what it’s like to not be able to play the game,’’ Exum said.
The bad run of fortune for Exum began when he suffered rib and shoulder injuries Dec. 6, 2015 against Seattle, and was placed on injured reserve.
Exum didn’t play in a single regular-season game last season. He suffered a leg injury in an Aug. 28 preseason game against San Diego and soon was placed was on injured reserve.
