  Gun Control
Posted by: JimmyinSD - 11-15-2017, 06:09 PM - Forum: Sensitive Topics - Replies (22)

I have an honest question on gun control.

In light of recent events,  why does the left argument always go to more laws and not stricter enforcement of existing laws.  I mean the right side is/has/ and always will demand that the current laws be better enforced so why not do that for a few years and see where that gets us?  why not use the existing laws to full extent possible and then look to create new ones as the situation demands?  I think the new laws would be better accepted if existing laws were proven to be a failure.

I heard that yesterdays gunman stabbed his neighbor earlier this year... that has to be a felony doesnt it?  first off how he isnt in jail is beyond me... maybe its a liberal california thing,  but I have to think stabbing somebody should warrant a felony jail sentence.  with that felony he can no longer own, posess, or use firearms... it was reported by several citizens in that are that the whack job has been shooting off thousands of rounds of ammo lately... so if he is a felon,  he isnt trying to hide his gun posession.   he shouldnt have been walking the streets let alone owning guns and shooting up innocents.

I would also say that if a person is to mentally unstable to stay in the military... they likely shouldnt own firearms either,  no way the fucker in Texas should have ever been able to own a damn gun.

Nathan Peterman - QB - Bills

Coach Sean McDermott announced rookie Nathan Peterman will start Week 11 against the Chargers.

"We were made to be more than 5-4, and I've come here to be more than 5-4," McDermott said. "Really, it's about becoming a better team. Every position is evaluated and that's the direction I decided to go." Taylor and the entire offense is coming off a horrendous Week 10 against the Saints, but that was his first bad game at home. Peterman came in late for mop-up work, playing his first 11 snaps of the season. He went 7-of-10 for 79 yards and a score and was handpicked by McDermott and the new regime as a fifth-rounder. He had a nondescript preseason. His first NFL start will be on the road in L.A. against the Bolts. The offense will continue to run through LeSean McCoy.

Or another title? I personally would have a hard time picking one of the 3 I mentioned as #1 of the genre. Probably Caddyshack

  OT: My Mom, Alice
Posted by: HappyViking - 11-15-2017, 05:26 AM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (18)

Dear Longshippers,

Just to recap, my mom has been
very ill since my son, Gabe, and I discovered her unconscious in her apartment last
Christmas morning.  We later found out her congestive heart failure, poor
kidney function, and diabetes were all coming to a head and making her very
ill.  She battled through that and had been living in an assisted living
apartment since last February.  That had been
going fairly well but fluid buildup in her lungs would cause hospital stays or
unexpected doctor visits every six weeks or so.

Mom just wanted to keep living,
even after surviving two trips up to palliative care, where being discharge isn’t
what’s expected.  While her outside world seemed to get smaller, her
happiness didn’t.  Actually, I think she seemed to appreciate life all the
more over these past eight months.

My mom had to have an amputation above the knee on her left
leg.  This was done late September due to complications with gangrene that
formed in a toe.  Alice is diabetic and has very poor blood circulation
going into her legs, and one of her toes had a sore that just wouldn’t
heal.  After getting topical treatments since last March, something had to
be done to stop the excruciating pain in her foot.

Amputation was the only choice
we had, and we hoped the above the knee option would give her the best chance
at healing.  Well, it didn’t heal like we hoped, and last month she had to
have a second procedure done called debridement to remove the tissue around the
wound that didn’t heal.    We later found today that procedure
failed too.

That left us with two
options.  We could have another amputation, or move mom back up to
palliative care for the comfort approach.  Mom didn’t want any more
surgeries, and I’m not sure any surgeon would opt to perform one on her due to
her other health concerns.  So, today Alice has been transferred to
palliative care once again, but this time we know the outcome.

She feels comfortable up there,
and it’s also comforting for me to know she’s in a spot that fully understands
and knows how to handle people in the final stages of life.

We don’t know how much time we
have; could be days or weeks.  She’s been nothing short of amazing the way
she’s been so determined to keep fighting these battles and obstacles coming
her way.  I told mom that now she no longer has to fight for anything, and
she can go up there and relax.

It’s been a crazy year, but it’s
all necessary.

Thanks for listening,
Tim (Happy)

Film review: Skill and scheme both responsible for Vikings’ successful passing attack
Posted by: purplefaithful - 11-15-2017, 04:14 AM - Forum: The Longship - No Replies

If someone had told you that the Minnesota Vikings would lose their starting quarterback in Week 2 and still rank 10th in the NFL in passing yards, you wouldn’t have believed them. But the combination of offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur’s scheme, the talents of Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen, protection from the offensive line and execution by Case Keenum have made the Vikings’ passing game a serious threat. The first half of Sunday’s game in Washington was a perfect storm.

There are few better examples of all the aspects of the Vikings’ passing game working in conjunction than the 51-yard completion from Keenum to Diggs on Minnesota’s opening drive.

Report: Vikings will stay with Case Keenum vs. Rams
Posted by: purplefaithful - 11-15-2017, 04:11 AM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (6)

Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer said Monday that he knows which quarterback will be starting when the Vikings face off with the Los Angeles Rams at US Bank Stadium on Sunday.
Of course, Zimmer would not say whether he will stick with Case Keenum or turn to Teddy Bridgewater, but noted he would inform the team on Wednesday.
CBS’s Jason La Confora reports that Zimmer will be telling his team that Keenum is set to get the nod against the Rams.
Bridgewater was active Sunday against Washington, marking the first time he was able to suit up since the 2016 preseason.
“I have a plan, sometimes plans change,” Zimmer said on following a 38-30 win over Washington.
Keenum went 21-for-29 with 304 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions and has a 92.6 rating for the year.

Vikings’ offensive coordinator making his case to get a head coaching job
Posted by: purplefaithful - 11-15-2017, 04:09 AM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (5)

Case Keenum’s play this season likely will earn the veteran journeyman a multiyear contract and an opportunity to compete for a starting job with a quarterback-desperate team in 2018.
But Keenum, who is playing on a one-year, $2 million contract, isn’t the only member of the Vikings’ offense who stands to benefit from his team’s success.
In his first full season as the Vikings’ offensive coordinator, Pat Shurmur has overseen a unit that lost its starting quarterback (Sam Bradford) after one game, its star rookie running back (Dalvin Cook) in the fourth game and went two games without one of its top receivers (Stefon Diggs).
Despite this, the Vikings are sitting atop the NFC North at 7-2 thanks in part to an offense that is operating far more efficiently than it did a year ago.
The Vikings finished last season 23rd in the NFL in points per game (20.4), 18th in passing (240 yards per game) and 32nd in rushing (75.3 yards per game). With major upgrades to the offensive line, and a system far more suited to 2017, the Vikings are 10th in points (24.1), 12th in passing (246) and 11th in rushing (118).
All of this should lead to Shurmur being a hot name when it comes to head coaching openings after the season. The biggest thing that teams looking to make a coaching change will consider is Keenum’s success in the Vikings’ system.
