This coming week might be the most consequential in recent memory
Let me start by saying I feel there is a very high probability Wentz starts this week. The “hamstring injury” is just far too convenient. I also don’t think they want to expose Kyler to what will probably be a very hostile home crowd at US Bank.
That being said, I think KOC knows what he has in Wentz and he knows he can’t win with him long-term. That’s why the move hasn’t been made to bench Kyler for him yet. I think Kyler has a very fragile ego and the second you bench him, he’s useless to you the rest of the season.
Now… let’s say Wentz wins and the offense looks respectable: I think the team will be in a position that they have to ride the hot hand, so to say, and just see where it takes them.
So what if Wentz isn’t great and they lose??? I think this is where you’re going to see how in lockstep KOC and Teasley are. KOC would, most likely, want the front office to make a move with his ass in the hot seat. Teasley, on the other hand, just got this job. He’s not beholden to the coach or any of the players or any decisions that have been made up to this point other than the McCarthy trade.
By standing pat and doing nothing, he could force O’Connell to lie in the bed that he made. Making it easier to rebuild this team from the ground up starting next year.
Or…
He could try to make a move at Kevin’s request an attempt to save this season and in essence Kevin’s job.
I’m not saying at all that I know the direction this whole thing will go, but the next 7 to 10 days are gonna be very telling for the future of the Minnesota Vikings.
well, that JJM trade that does have his finger prints on it is pretty damning right now, he sold our back up plan for Murray for peanuts, he had to know that Murray wasnt performing as advertised and went along with the trade anyway, so I think he needs to carry a lot of the blame for the fiasco that we are in.
in hind sight I think it safe to say that those reports back from training camp of neither guy seperating themselves were likely accurate, I do question the reports that Murray went lights out after he was named starter and I am more inclined to think that the primary driver for trading JJM was to try and make km comfortable ( FAIL!!!) and to alleviate the calls for JJM when km stumbles. right now I think Teasley and KOC both have a shit ton of egg on their face.
Why isn't Chuck Foreman in the Hall of Fame?
It was never a QB competition, although McCarthy thought it was. The whole thing got shut down pretty quick and obviously they embellished Murray’s abilities during camp. JJ might get the last laugh when it’s all said and done.

Murray got his way when he made the comments to the media about him not getting all the first team reps on the reason why he was struggling. I just want to fix our situation. JJM isn't an option, which it should be.

the last laugh would be him coming back to MN as a free agent under a different HC. that would be the tobasco to the eye ball.

It’s what the Wilf’s want.
Listen, it isn't even really about O'Connell's job any more. You have a Super Bowl ready defense. That doesn't come around very often. There are no guarantees you will ever have it again. Are you going to piss it away based on some other reason then football? To me you bring in whatever you have to bring in now. Now I am not selling a 1st round pick for Cousins, but if it's a 4th, you do it. Whether it saves O'Connell's job or not.
This ho-hum mentality of "Maybe" it will get better should be over. Murray is not the answer, Wince isn't the answer either. There have been more then ample opportunities for it to be proven otherwise. What does a "turn around" of his offense even look like any more? From 31st to 27th in rankings? That's a setup to get ran in the 1st round of the playoffs.
No pussy footing around, as my dad used to say "Sh** or get off the pot." Maybe still Cousins isn't the answer either, but it seems Flores is pushing the issue where you have to take a shot.
Mid-season trades for starting quarterbacks in the NFL are extremely rare, with the most prominent examples occurring when teams suffered major injuries or lost starters:
October 31, 2023 (Joshua Dobbs): The Minnesota Vikings traded a 2024 sixth-round pick to the Arizona Cardinals (along with a seventh-round pick exchange) for quarterback Josh Dobbs right at the trade deadline. The move was triggered after Vikings starting quarterback Kirk Cousins suffered a season-ending torn Achilles tendon in Week 8. Dobbs had started the first eight games of the season for Arizona before being dealt.
October 18, 2011 (Carson Palmer): The Oakland Raiders acquired veteran Carson Palmer from the Cincinnati Bengals mid-season after Raiders starter Jason Campbell broke his collarbone. Cincinnatitraded Palmer (who had been holding out/threatening retirement) in exchange for a 2012 first-round pick and a 2013 second-round pick.
October 31, 2017 (Jimmy Garoppolo): The San Francisco 49ers traded a second-round draft pick to the New England Patriots for Jimmy Garoppolo. While Garoppolo took over as the starter later that season and went undefeated, he was serving as Tom Brady's backup in New England at the time of the trade rather than an active starter.
Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!

I’m open to 2x second round picks. Let’s get it done.
An additional note. I’ve watched some of the All 22. Granted I’m not going to pretend to be some guru, but if EYE can see receivers running wide open for large portions of this game….KOC’s play calling is not the issue.
He is scheming players open the ENTIRE GAME. This is 80-90% an execution problem

Do you think the All-22 gives you much for visibility on whether Kyler can physically see what's happening? Like, did KOC change too much too soon and he just doesn't get it yet or is he height limited and the routes are designed for tall people? I've been tempted to buy it just for my own curiosity.

I was actually thinking that when I was watching it, but IDK man….height aside there’s just no way you can miss some of this stuff as a professional QB.
You can just see the frustration in Jefferson and Addison’s body language. Like they’re getting open and he’s just not seeing it or he’s seeing it too late.

I was wondering about that too.

This is what really irks me. He's supposed to be a professional, but what do we hear during every game? "He's still learning" I'm so sick of that excuse.
LIVE WELL ~ LOVE MUCH ~ LAUGH OFTEN
There very well may be a soft benching coming this Monday night for Murray, but I also don't feel Wentz is any kind of answer....and certainly not over 3 to 4 games. If I have to listen to KOC gush all over Carson Wentz at another presser I'm going to puke. They are stuck. They gave up on McCarthy....and I'm not saying he was necessarily the answer, but he would have gotten his shot here again. Sigh.🫤 I just can't see a move that moves the needle this week because of our QB1 issues.
I think JIT or someone said Mac Jones for '27 and that may be the case. Doesn't float my boat but I just don't know what other great alternatives there'll be with the situation Minnesota has put themselves in with Murray's shit play. I guess draft a young guy like maybe Trinidad Chambliss, let him sit behind Jones for 1 year or so and hope for the best for the future. I think he's a Caleb Williams-lite type.🤷♂️ I'm at a loss for future direction, honestly.

I'm not a mind reader but the looks on their faces definitely felt a lot more like, "Why can't this $!%##$^ guy get me the ball?!" rather than, "These play calls stink". JMO

Shhhh! There's still a couple of just adorable board members that are trying their best mental gymnastics to blame the HC. Did we hear any players complaining about JJM like this last year? That's rhetorical, because he had the team, they loved him...knew he just needed seasoning. Mr. Aloof, Kyler Murray, has been what he's always been.

If Flores bails, you might as well rebuild. I know it won't happen here ever, so QB means very little at that point. I wouldn't want KOC within 10 miles of the next rookie QB the Vikings draft after the JJM debacle. At this point, the path forward can't really be planned for until you know what Flores is going to do. I think everyone can agree that football speaking he will get another HC opportunity. The outside of football issues may be the only thing that keeps him here for another year.
That being said, and all things equal, if Flores stays, any reasonable heartbeat who can perform a modicum of Quarterbacking would be acceptable. Mac Jones may be a good enough answer, but I really think KOC needs a very specific type of Quarterback to make his offense run. Drafting a high level RB and putting in a big arm veteran QB may very well get the Vikings to a playoff win...IF Flores returns. If he doesn't all bets are off...we are a 8-9 team at best.
Also for those of you defending KOC, remember this...he CHOSE Murray. There were other options and he proclaimed that Murray was the savior.

I watched the 22 from the game before and it was the same story. Even double covered, JJ gets open a lot. The biggest thing that jumped out to me though was Jennings. That guy can get open. On Kyler’s long scramble, Jennings guy fell down with cramps. When Kyler moved out of the pocket, Jennings was open downfield running all alone. It looked like Kyler was looking right at him and then chose to run it. Had he thrown it, it was an easy TD.
Agreed....oh you mean Viking's football? 🌊🗳️
