KOC Names Wentz QB 2 for Packers

Would love to know how much homework the scouting department is putting into the 2027 QB class. Teasley has no ties to JJM. What better way to put your stamp on the team than to select a QB in your initial draft.

I could definitely see it given the depth of the '27 QB class.

Divorce upcoming… and I never once said anything about this season. I’m speaking about beyond this year…and this is from his boy Schefty:

JJ McCarthy is not expected to be traded at the moment, and will likely be on the #Vikings roster this season before they “explore a divorce” after the year, @AdamSchefter mentioned via @GetUpESPN.

You know they have to be giving it strong consideration. It would be very challenging to get the guy you want without totally tanking. There is one team with three number one picks and two or three with two number one picks next year. Teasley would have to be pretty aggressive to get the QB they want instead of another left over like Ponder or JJ!

I’ve said before, I’ll say it again: This entire organization couldn’t not have shit the bed any harder on this entire situation. It’s honestly, the biggest self-induced calamity the Vikings organization has ever experienced.

JJM isn’t blameless in this situation, but this was a recipe for disaster from the second Darnold was allowed to walk away. And not for the reason you think….

A lot of people hate JJM because they see what Darnold did in Seattle and assume that would have been the Vikings. I’d stake my life on, instead, just getting more of the same of what we got in 2024. And after another year of soul crushing disappointment, Every fan would have been clamoring for JJ….who, in this scenario, would have had another year of seasoning and maturing under his belt without being thrown to the wolves.

Instead, we got the Kwesi plan and a head coach who seemed to be all like “fine….if that’s what you want….this is what you get”. In the end we got a fired GM and a ruined young QB.

Make no mistake. It is OVER for JJM in Minnesota. There is absolutely no coming back from this. The damage that has been done is incalculable and the only hope for JJ to salvage any part of his career is on another team.

We’re gonna re-sign Kyler to a 5 year/260 million dollar deal because it’s the best/only thing we can do. And after they’re sick of watching him be average, we’ll do it all over again with someone else.

We have to play some games first for sure... but I don't think Schefty is wrong. The relationship between KOC, McCarthy, and the organization is not in a good place. I'm sure McCarthy feels a little betrayed because when he was drafted, he was told by the Vikings that they were focused on his development. Giving him the starting job last year and then immediately signing a former #1 pick to replace him sends mixed messages. Are you still developing me or have you moved on? Only person who knows that is KOC since I'm sure he has the most weight on making the QB call.

And JJM of course needs to accept some responsibility as well, but listen....its all been said before. An amicable divorce this offseason is going to happen for sure and before Draft day. That shouldn't be a surprise to fans nor should it impact your enjoyment of the upcoming season. Its another bumper crop of QBs for 2027, Vikings are going to get one somewhere in the Draft.

I know none of us wants to go down a rabbit hole again...

The kid had a whole year to minimally show "just enough" progress and (to my frustration) he didnt/couldnt.

We may never agree, but I would have signed K1 for $2mm, let alone $1mm against that backdrop.

I'm still holding out hope the story has a different ending.

But I am starting to realize the Vikings may very well spend a day1 or day2 pick on a QB.

Maybe 2027 will be their lucky #?

I can imagine that JJM is probably in a rough place right now emotionally where he’s likely grieving the loss of how he expected his career to go. Literally no one would have expected multiple injuries and the statistical outcomes that happened. That said, I don’t think it’s really a grudge-worthy situation. I don’t think anyone can look at the output we had last year and think that they were in a safe spot. I think the only place you can really expect a grudge to happen is if he was outplaying Kyler in practices and they still picked Kyler, which I don’t think was what anyone was reporting, although reporting wasn’t good this year, and most practices were out of sight.

I wouldn’t expect JJM to be emotionally down for the whole season and into the offseason. I expect a couple of games will pass and he’ll be in a place where he can be better equipped to focus on developing his callous and handling his business, and the team will see how he rebounds from his challenge. If he’s literally holding his red stapler from the closet in the far end of the building, then sure, force your way out into a better situation, but I can’t imagine that KOC is handling his development that way. I kind of think that KOC is just treating the QB room like other positions where they are ranked in terms of who’s better than who, and JJM has a clear understanding of what he needs to do to get better and win the spots above his back.

Maybe, but I would be willing to bet you put JJM in that same situation to win the game like Maye had on Wed, JJM comes aways with that win. Granted, he has some major issues that he needed to show better. He didn't in a lot of ways. I get that.
