Fans should pay attention to Christian Darrisaw, offensive line too
I’m sure I’ll be glancing toward a quarterback or two this afternoon, but I’m out here at TCO Performance Center to peek at how things are progressing with the biggest offseason move no one is talking about: Coach Kevin O’Connell’s decision to promote Keith Carter from assistant offensive line coach to offensive line coach after Chris Kuper was let go.
I’m doing a big story on Carter’s not-always-smooth journey to this point in his career. That will be published fairly soon. I think the guy is going to make a big difference in the run game and the line’s ability to anticipate the exotic four-man rushes the Vikings see. And I know O’Connell feels that way.
Today, I chatted with Carter again after the team’s walk-through just to see how things are going. “The guys are looking good; really good,” he said. “They’re moving with a purpose. Buying in. I’m expecting big things from this group.”
One player in particular has looked better than he has in a couple years: Left tackle Christian Darrisaw. I was talking to Darrisaw during minicamp in June, when I mentioned that it appeared to me that he was bending and moving in a manner that told me he finally wasn’t thinking about the knee he blew out in 2024 and never fully recovered from last season. “I feel great; best I’ve felt in two years,” he said.
Carter’s expert eyes sees the same thing. “Yes, and that’s huge for us,” Carter said. “When Christian is healthy and ready to go like he is now, he’s as good as they come.”
So go ahead and watch the quarterbacks, but remember this: Even the really good quarterbacks are only as good as their offensive line. Take a peek or two at the big fellas while you’re out at TCO.
Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!
Clear win for Kyler today, was on point. Getting dialed in 👊

Hopefully getting a little more comfortable out there?
I can't imagine trying to master that playbook.
Kudos to all 3 qb's digging into that novella.

Vikings first practice in front of fans just ended. Kyler Murray was very sharp today. Completed all sorts of passes from the pocket. The operation looked clean. J.J. McCarthy’s timing seemed a tad off, late on some misfires. Kyler took most snaps with 1s, J.J. with 2s.

Great pass from McCarthy to JA. Looked like a tight window.
