Live: Forest Service closing Boundary Waters due to fires and extreme heat

Growing-up in the midwest, you get used to a few 100 degree days once in a while, they're pretty rare...We avg 13 90+ degree days over summer.

It's pretty rare we get 7+ days in a row at 93-95+ and heat indices 100+.

Massive heat dome here until Sunday at the earliest.

I know, I expect a "hold my beer" from u southerners..

Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!

We're in the mid-80's today with 64% humidity in Northwest Montana, while East of the Continental Divide (East of the mountains), it may have gotten to 118 degrees (they are verifying it...if so, it would be an all-time record temp for the entire state). They for certain recorded 114 degree readings from yesterday.
Not taking it for granted here. Just blessed that we avoided the mega-heat. At least Minnesota doesn't get much summer humidity (LOL).

heck tom is a frigid 70 today and little rain flathead is pretty Joppa right now

Good to know. Knowing me I'll probably stick mostly to the urban areas. From what I've been reading, Wynwood, Little Havana and Coconut Grove sound more my style. Do you think I could find a good Cubano down there somewhere? 😜 I've done the beach thing aplenty. I'm more into getting to know the city, the history of it, its neighborhoods.

You'll enjoy Miami then. Yes, excellent Cuban sandwiches down there.... and coffee. Wynwood is a great arts neighborhood, not far off of 95 and easy to get to. Check out a restaurant called KYU if you go, its excellent, but not Cuban fare. Miami has an interesting history: in teh 40s and 50s, just a sleepy little place with not a ton going on. Then the drug money came in and voila, major metropolis. Brush up on your Spanish, its the main language by far in Miami....the chicas are muy caliente! 🥰 Get into a domino game in Little Havana and pop in to see Teddy in 'Da West', Liberty City.

Careful up there....These fires are for real and spreading. NG has been called out.
Air quality hazards issued today for the entire state.

It wasn't even smokey where we were. You could smell them near Mille Lac's. But it really didn't look bad out until we were near the cities. Flying out of MSP last night was crazy how smokey it was.

The MPCA’s Air Quality Index is a scale used to report how clean or polluted the air is. The lower the number, the cleaner the air.

Alerts are triggered once the AQI reaches 100.

New metro area marks were set in St. Michael at 382.5, Pacific Street in NE. Minneapolis at 364.6, Apple Valley at 362.3, Blaine at 342.8, the East Phillips neighborhood of Minneapolis at 308.9, St. Paul Harding High School 307.4 and Lakeville at 286.3.

In greater Minnesota, Ely now holds the highest reading ever seen in the state at 797.5. Right behind was west Duluth at 635.6, Virginia at 604, Grand Portage at 576.3 and Duluth proper at 573.8.

My pups are unhappy not getting their walks today.
