17-year-old accused of killing mother in Maplewood
The girl allegedly asked investigators, "Am I a criminal because I only killed one person?”
MAPLEWOOD, Minn. — A 17-year-old girl is behind bars for allegedly killing her mother with a hammer.
According to Maplewood police, Georgina Lee Monk, 43, was found deceased in her home during a welfare check on Friday.
The victim's daughter is charged with second-degree murder. According to the criminal complaint, investigators found the victim, who used a wheelchair, with blunt force trauma to her head. Neighbors speaking to investigators said they heard the two arguing regularly, but the day before was "more heated than usual." Another neighbor said the victim had taken away the 17-year-old's phone.
