Well, the USA left some goals on the pitch, but are moving on to the field of 32. 👍🤘

Not trying to be a downer, but they were in a very weak group. Sledding gets MUCH tougher now.

Isn't this pretty much just a rip off of the Icelanders cheer that the Vikings ripped off for the Skol chant?

Why isn't Chuck Foreman in the Hall of Fame?

futbol @ 5 billion fans to football at 400 million fans ( but gaining, right Rog?) yeah I dont think anybody is confused on what the preferred global athletic competition is.
however in the the good ol US of A... Football is still the king with a 4 to 1 advantage over Soccer. ( it supposedly has overtaken baseball as the #3 most popular sport, with basketball holding the #2 spot) I kind of doubt that is based on game attendance or tv viewers, but it was what AI came back with.
all I know is that our area has gone all in on a new JR hockey league team the last couple years, no talk about soccer or futbol at all.

America represents 4% of the world's population. I think Roger Goodell's vision is that the NFL expands around the globe to a fraction of the degree soccer has. The potential revenue is staggering at just 10% market penetration. But it will never get to the level soccer has, and I'm sure he knows that. One of the reasons soccer is so big in underdeveloped countries is because it's so cheap. Any 8 year old in Zimbabwe can find a ball and a makeshift goal and train to be the next Pele. There are no equipment needs or size issues like there is with American football.

Sorry to offend, I was referring to cheers at sporting events, not attacking our beloved homeland country.

You're not offending me. That's pretty hard to do.

I just think it's a little odd to call a USA chant stale when we're talking about international competition. That's kind of the point. You're there representing your country and cheering for your country.

Could there be more creative chants? Sure. But with Team USA hockey winning Olympic gold, the World Cup in the U.S. in over 30 years, and the men's team playing well, it feels like a strange time to be rolling our eyes at a USA chant.

It appears I might be in the minority here, but hearing an entire stadium belt out "USA" will never get old to me.

I was referring to conversations I have had with Europeans, primarily English, Irish, Scots and Germans. The Brits have multiple national teams teams in the UK. Germans have actively backed away from displays of nationalism since WW2. IMO that has been changing in the last decade. Do what feels good and right for you, but one should be able to entertain another opinion without having to accept it. I'm proud to be American, just maybe not so much pride of all things Americans do, big difference.

so? I am talking about people here in the US where nobody talks about soccer except for when the world cup rolls around and suddenly they all think they are Andres Cantor (yes I had to look it up)... but in a couple weeks they will once again have nothing to say about the game. I tried it for a couple years growning up in the late 70s/early 80s... found it pretty boring and never kept any interest after that.
I understand its global significance and with the large influx of Hispanics into the US, its growing participation levels, but IMO its still about as exciting to watch as.... well I cant really think of anything I would be less likely to tune into than soccer, the flopping makes lebron envious, and the lack of scoring makes it hard to sit through for the average sports fan. I can see the chess matches and appreciate some of the nuance, but that only goes so far.
not trying to shit on the game, its cool that you seem to be into it. I just laugh at the posers that only speak up when its the world cup or olympics.

Not surprised by this response. It's typical for Americans and their short attention span. It's why all US sports don't really care about defense anymore and they have changed the rules to just try to get as many scores on the board as possible so Americans don't get bored too quick. NFL is a obvious example of this. NBA also how it's just turned into Euro Ball and all 3's.

Soccer started gaining traction in the US in the late 80's and blew up all over the 90's. USA Cup is a prime example. High school international teams coming to play other HS Teams. They used to host it in Blaine in the 90's also. There are tons of football clubs and even San Diego just started a FC a couple years back, https://www.sandiegofc.com/

And if it's not being exciting to you then that's on you and your preferences. I see an insane amount of talent and ball control and the movement by the players to find open lanes to make one touch quick passes all while trying to find openings in the defense.... Exciting for me. And if you have never been to a euro soccer match then... You don't really know. The flares, flags, banners, chants etc... The parades of thousands of fans hiking in from miles away all singing their club songs...

But yes its an event that happens once every 4 years so you don't hear a lot about it outside of that unless you follow soccer. Same can be said about Hockey. I'm in San Diego and 99% of people here couldn't tell you 5 hockey team names. Just depends on your preferences. Me... I quit watching hockey in 1993 when the Northstars left MN. Complete sacrilege and I wont watch hockey again.
