“most scouts I talk to think he has the best chance to become a game-wrecker of the class’ interior defensive linemen and may be the only one with that potential. I had one compare him to Jeffery Simmons coming out, which seemed a bit rich, but gives you an idea on his ceiling.”

Yep. Mostly that he's a motivated individual. If he wants to be a great player, Minnesota has hit a home run. If he's in it for the bag and he half-asses things like some of these big guys do, yikes.

We've had good luck with #88. Page of course. But 88 was also Randy Moss's number in college. Banks will have to pick another one since the Page jersey number is retired.

Thought the Vikings don't retire #s. Or is that a more recent change?

Yes, number 88 is a retired number for the Minnesota Vikings. It was retired in honor of Hall of Fame defensive tackle Alan Page, who wore it from 1967 to 1978. He is also known as Mr Viking to Purplefaithful.

The Vikings have only retired six numbers in their history:

  • 10 - Fran Tarkenton

  • 53 - Mick Tingelhoff

  • 70 - Jim Marshall

  • 77 - Korey Stringer

  • 80 - Cris Carter

  • 88 - Alan Page

Should add 44, 64, and 84. Big oversight.

I wouldn't argue against any of those 3.

Well they went to the ring of honor method rather than retiring #s. Honestly as long as the NFL has been around, I think this is a better method.

I'm not a fan of retiring numbers, but....I don't care enough if they do retire some. This is the kind of hard nosed insight you get on this board.
