Now Vrabel is skipping the 3rd day of the Draft to receive 'counseling'. What a load of shit. CYA time and PR handling.

It has been out there since this story broke. Nothing new there. Double standards exist.

I fail to see hypocrisy. Vrabel will be mocked on this all year and will definitely have to watch his backside in order to keep his job. He has proven to be a good NFL head coach, which are very hard to find. His marriage likely isn't in the best of places right now, and I don't see many people singing his virtues.

The only difference here is that Russini was fired. She's paid to report on things. Her objectivity was somewhat corrupted, not that the entire media's isn't. Her job and talents can be so easily replaced that getting canned isn't going to affect the Athletic one iota in a negative way. Retaining Vrabel has some negatives for the Patriots but likely far more positives as he is certifiably a valuable asset.

Double standards certainly do exist in many places, particularly with our press and their failure to cover the biggest scams in our society. Just because one woman got fired from a job because of the optics is hardly a hill to die on. I could cite hundreds of examples in today's society where it has not paid to be a white male. However, it's convenient for those who want it to be so to focus on weak cases like this to cry about double standards. This even as the entire mainstream media has targeted white males and one in particular for over a decade now in every imaginable way. lol

Double standards exist, but I feel you and Vikergirl cite a very poor example.

I can’t say any of this is all that surprising anymore. We tend to put athletes, coaches, and media personalities on a pedestal, then act shocked when they fall short.

You’ve got a reporter who’s been pretty open publicly about issues in her personal life, and a head coach who clearly made poor decisions despite being married. None of this comes out of nowhere.

At the end of the day, both situations reflect bad judgment, and both are going to draw criticism because of it.

I don’t think this is some grand double standard example. These are two different jobs with different expectations.

A reporter’s credibility is tied to objectivity and perception and once that’s questioned, it directly impacts their role. A head coach is judged primarily on results and leadership inside the building. That doesn’t excuse bad behavior, but it does explain why the consequences look different.

Both made poor decisions. Both will take heat for it. But not every difference in outcome is proof of some bigger bias...sometimes it’s just the reality of two very different roles.

Wow. Spot on! I’d love to hear the counter argument to this instead of shallow snarky replies. Let’s have a conversation. If in sensitive topics, let’s do it there, instead of one-sided comments with no responsibility to back up the non-sensical assertions. It sure is brave to state shit as factual that is anything but.
