$43mm over the cap now
Aging roster
Some real needs on both side of the ball, qb, S, RB etc..

Outside of QB? I'm not feeling they have the stomach or urgency to go big. Not with 10 picks in the draft just a mos away.

Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!

I’d be surprised if we’re a player at all right out the gate. We need young upcoming talent not aging expensive FAs

I don't think cap is much of a concern. We've had one year of spending after the rebuild.

But I do think we need to get younger to find the future of our team. I think we'll do the same thing we've done every year, which is fill holes before the draft and draft on top of that. I don't anticipate a huge expenditure, probably because we spent so much in cash last year.

I think our splash players will be a center and a RB, both pretty moderate in the overall scheme of things.

Ripple effect from 4 years of drafts by kwesi has caught up to this roster.

I don't see the Vikings doing much.

"I believe in nothing
Never really had to
In regard to your life
Rumours that are not true
Who's defending evil
Surely never I
Who would be the witness
Should you chance to die?"

Judging by recent history, whether or not they have been injured before, everyone we sign will blow something by halfway through TC. And if we make the playoffs, the survivors will all blow something else week 18.

^^^^ This

Kelly will retire or be let go.  I still think Allen will be a June 1st cut too.

I'd add a DT and a CB or S to the list for depth.

I'd love to see a trade for Sexy Dexy or Jeffery Simmons and Breece Hall, Travis Eitienne or Kenneth Walker, but that may be more of a pipe dream for both.

I agree with this. The Vikings are last in cap space right now, but they rank 4th in the NFL in the amount of restructurable money on their books. In other words, they can get well under the books easily without cutting players or adding void years to contracts. I think by the time the Vikings finish, they should have plenty of money to add a couple players.

Also agree the Vikings will target younger players this year. Hard to say what positions they'll be, but I'd love to cover our cheaper offensive needs in free agency so we can draft nothing but defense on day one and two.

Just heard that Jonathan Greenard may be cap-space trade bait (or restructure) per Schefter.
He alone will account for $22.15 against the cap this next season.

I like Greenard a lot, but he played through an injury last season affecting his numbers.
Dallas Turner may be ready for his closeup.

But where's the depth behind Gink and Greenard if either gets hurt again (they will).

Per Over The Cap

There are two types of restructuring:

A simple restructure converts payments into prorated signing bonuses within the confines of the remainder of the contract. Teams typically have the ability to unilaterally execute simple restructures without any action necessary from the player.

A maximum restructure increases the amount of cap space via conversion into prorated signing bonuses by either extending the contract or by adding void years to a contract, years that do not extend the contract but are only used as placeholders for the proration. Maximum restructures are typically considered a renegotiation of the contract that requires the player's consent to execute.

Vikings simple restructure: $104,333,408 minus the $51.5m currently over the cap, net $52.8m of potential cap space.
Vikings maximum restructure: $158,724,335, minus the $51.5m currently over the cap, net $107.2m of potential cap space.

My gut take is that there will be pressure in performing this year, and I don't think they're going to be chopping productive people and are closer to overpaying to retain talent.  I think the Hargrave and Jones type cuts are ones where they feel most comfortable replacing without too much effort.  I kind of think that the risk of losing Greenard in the offseason and then having an injury to Turner is too great in this season where KOC really has to make progress.

Similarly, I think they'll end up retaining Hockenson, even though his contract is a little too large.  The risk of not having a TE1 is just too great.  You can deal with the cap problems later, but you got to keep your job and so much rides on making sure your QBs have whatever they need to be successful.

Same can be said about Cashman too...At some point I think Greenard will get restructured or traded - especially if Turner continues to ascend.

They gotta be careful though. Turner is not at Greenards level yet, least not by end of yr2 he wasn't.

And while Turner is still only 23 year years old (!!) Greenard is just 28. Gink is the guy who is damn near irreplaceable, someday they're going to have to find an heir apparent if they keep this scheme.
