Just let the kid throw the f-cking football. Getting out of his head with the throwing mechanics and this is what you get. Let the incremental growth come with accuracy organically. He's playing confidently and the road never scared him anyway. He's a gamer, let those attributes out. There are those chunks plays that O'Connell loves so much. Much to learn and get better at for JJM but now you can SEE it. Finally. I'm sure a few fans will move the goalposts again for him, but here he comes....one week at a time.

@OptaSTATS
Tonight marks the third time the @Vikings ' J.J. McCarthy has thrown multiple TD passes while also rushing for a TD in the same game.
No one else in NFL history has done that 3 times within the first 8 games of his career.

At this point its soemthing to really work on in the offseason, and then try and maintain once we get into next year.
Its really just this ^....and I'm sure he will.
But its never going to be perfect. If we can all agree on that, it'll be just a lot more logical and common sense oriented. I could probably put 10 minutes of video yesterday alone with 85% of the NFL QBs not having perfect throwing mechanics situationally...I watch the Redzone Channel, I see it every Sunday. I think we've all seen Jordan Love throw these deep, off his back foot fadeaway throws that are very less than optimal and many times less than accurate. Is LeFleur getting himself worked up over it? Nope. Its just part of Love's makeup. And don't get me started on Caleb William's mechanics.
As I mentioned: JJ has plenty of things to work on. But JJ has the hallmarks of a big play performer who doesn't care if its at home or away. Keep stackin'.

On the other hand, where are those who were beating up KOC and co when it was reported that they thought McCarthy’s footwork and mechanics was not where they wanted them to be? I guess now that Chris said it, it’s OK.
Not sure anyone was beating up KOC over this observation, but he just needed to let it go when it become a major disruptor to JJ's progress. The only reason Cris Collinsworth mentioned it is he was fed this by the SNF team as a narrative. Anyone else ever see a broadcast focus on a QB's mechanics AFTER he throws TDs and long completions? Its goofy. But what else is new on these broadcasts?

I was watching Drake Maye yesterday, and I thought "This time last year I was thinking this kid socks big green donkey balls..." Look at him now.
Great example, I thought so as well. Maye still hasn't thrown for 300 yards, which the online toxic Twitter avengers seem to ignorantly benchmark as success. Maye is playing GREAT now, I really love watching him. But he's not perfect either. I'm excited to see where JJ is after starting as many games as Drake Maye has.

What helped Maye progress more than anything was a change in coaching staff, drafting well, solidifying their offensive line, and spending the most money in free agency to upgrade the roster talent. That roster was anysmal last year. Their first four draft picks were all spent on the offense and those players have hit.
....and probably the easiest schedule in the NFL.
