He had a 'great week' of practice according to KOC....that didn't translate to the field. Then KOC said in his presser after the game we have to get 'back to the things he did in practice this week', referencing that JJ's practices aren't necessarily making him better on the field. JJ got booed for the first time and he deserved it. His biggest f-ing stinkers have been at U.S. Bank stadium. His footwork is atrocious. He's thinking way too much and too long. Its all young QB shit, but he desperately needs a 'there it is' game for not only himself, but his teammates and the fans. The narrative would have been a little different if Minnesota held on and won that game. Not a ton, but certainly different mentally for everyone. That kickoff return was so f-ing gross and such a gut punch. 3 guys on the return team got out of their lanes and fucked the whole thing up. Just brutal.

JJ needs to pitch and catch with the boys, get that completion percentage up and save the big boy throws (which he has in his arsenal) for important moments sprinkled in. He played like ass and then in the most stressful and important time of a football game, took it all the way down the field for a go-ahead score with 50 seconds left. He has 'it'. But if he can't complete the easy passes, he's not going to make it. He needs to hit the bread and butter throws. The problem is he understood that last week....and the week prior....and here we are still. Its only been 5 games, but he's got to start the incremental improvements NOW with the easier throws. Because that is mental. IMO, something is going to click for him....and when it does, he'll make those improvements.

Would be great for the young man and Viking Nation if he could close out the year on a high note.

I think thats exactly right and the best we can hope for at this point...

I imagine the Viking Org could use that hope too right about now

Place has got to be like a funeral parlor today.

I think it would be worse without that what should have been a game winning drive....but that's neither here nor there now, its a loss.

He will! The fact he's playing well in practice is a GOOD thing. I know every crack and cranny of The Ledge by heart I've spent so much time on it believe me lol, but for now I think we all need to take a slow step back.

Oh I'm not anywhere close to getting off of JJ's wagon.....just recognizing some realities as I see it as we stand today.

I go back to Vikings fans haven't ever seen a successful QB built from the ground up and frankly we all have been kicked in the nads so many times that this has to be that again right?  McCarthy is just a bust?  Because letting Sam Darnold and Daniel Jones go to bring in a crappy rookie is a very Vikings thing to do.  Darnold shit the bed against the Rams again, and the last two Danny Dimes games have I think 6 turnovers by him?

So what am I say, patience is the key.  Do we really know what we are looking at yet?  I mean, I told my wife yesterday he couldn't hit the broadside of a barn with a beachball.  And then, the last series he looks like...well Sam Darnold last year.  I mean, I feel like it's there, but as the late Denny Green said...he is what we thought he was...basically a rookie.

lol, this encapsulates pretty much it all. The highs, the lows, the thoughts, etc. The whole gamut.

I sure as hell don't know. Just have an opinion. But I think the only way to go, to truly give it all a real chance is to be patient. But at some point, he's got to pick it up. He's got to wean himself off of these just horrible series, these chunks of game time where he looks like utter garbage. But all opinions are right as we stand now.

Remember Caleb Williams last year? Bryce Young? Multiple qbs go through the roller coaster but the only way forward is through. The ups and downs, highs and lows are all part of the deal

Both of those guys are still working through it. Honestly, if Carolina is going to give Young as long as they have to figure it out, you'd think fans might give JJ more than 5 games. Young has played in 39 NFL games and is 11-26 as a starter. How many game winning drives you think he's had? JJ should have 3 in 5 games started. There's big potential there, but he needs to dial in those easy throws.

Fans need to have perspective, which really is the last thing most fans have. Its ok to be concerned without losing your shit. You can criticize without sounding so completely hopeless and doom-saying. You can vent one day, find reasons for optimism the next. Hold strong opinions and then admit when they're wrong. I mean, we all want the same thing on this board, don't we?

No doubt he's going to have to figure it out. He can't be so horrible with the short to mid-range accuracy. If he has like a 'I'm seeing ghosts' type scenario where he obviously has the yips over the next few weeks, then like MB is debating maybe they bench him. IMO that would be the worst thing to happen and for the long-term it would be a finality for McCarthy in Minnesota. I think it would have the opposite effect of what fan's might think it would do for him (be helpful). It would be a sad turn of events and it would mark a huge lack of faith by the coaching staff. And if he throws another stinker at home, they'll boo him off the field.

Have to hope he turns a corner, even just a bit. Right now....this upcoming game.

I agree with MB that if he starts developing bad habits you gotta sit him down.....But I'm not sure if that happens, thats a final death knell for him as a Viking?

Might do him good in the long-run, depending on the circumstances.

He tends to play better on the road, so there is that going into this week. But it wont be easy in Lamblow and I hope the OL brings their A Game.

I get what you and MB are laying down, I do.....just don't agree with what the end result would be for JJ. Let's hope we never get close to exploring the DEFCON 1 option.

I tend to agree, if the kid is a much of a gamer as Sticky has professed

He should have 3 game winning drives in 5 starts, so yeah he's obviously a gamer.

He's putting up historically bad numbers, like the kind you see with a lot of guys who amount to nothing.  I hope it somehow changes but every week is a lesson in losing hope.

I don't think its going to change. In fact, I'm almost positive its not. This was the dagger for me with JJ, this game. Just not even remotely improving. The flashes are less impressive and the inaccuracy and INTs are ever constant.

I really, really hate saying this.
