Are my eyes deceiving me, or has KOC dialed up a game plan based on interior runs and quick hitters?

Is anybody going to talk about it? On that touchdown play to Addison at the end, Skule (playing LT) was way offside. I kept looking for the flag during the celebration. Maybe Karma for the Will the Thrill kick hitting the wire. Should have been 2nd and 15 instead of a TD. Evidently Skule's new secret to keeping up with the defensive pressure is to get a head start.

Nothing of the sort happened. Your TV has a glitch.
Honestly, I was so surprised it was not called. Anyway I have seen other teams benefit from that so I am cool with the no call.

I don't know if I missed this or not, but I just heard PA on KFAN say that Addison missed a walk through so I am wondering if that had anything to do with a first quarter benching

That was the reason KOC gave for the benching

Ok thanks. I didn't catch it there. He needs to get his head out

• I tend to think we lose that game if Flacco is the QB. Gabriel wasn't terrible. He just couldn't be accurate beyond 15 yards.

• KOC put together a quick-game strategy and it worked. He sounded damn near pissed about that fact though.

• Kudos to the OL. They held up remarkably well in the quick game. But damned if every time we tried a 5-step drop it resulted in a sack. Kev, can we now put this quick package in our back pocket so we can use it when we need it? Thx.

• Btw, I still think KOC is one of the best coaches in the NFL. You can criticize him and still think he's one of the best. Every time I have doubts about that, I watch another NFL game. The amount of boneheaded decisions in the NFL is astonishing. And you don't go 25-9 in one score games and suck at time management.

• Will people please stop pretending this is 1998, 2017 or 2024? Wentz has done exactly what he was supposed to do. Come in for an injured starter and not hurt us too bad. But this is not great QB play. JJ McCarthy should be our starting QB when he's healthy.

• We went from the best free agent class in our history, to what might be the most disappointing. Jonathan Allen and Javon Hargrave have been invisible and been outplayed by Redmond and LDR. And Will Fries and Ryan Kelly, even before the injury, are not at all playing like they were expected to. I have hope that it's just them adjusting to the new scheme. Continuity is the most underrated factor in football and we have none of it.

I think I agree with all of this. Dillon Gabriel was not a major threat passing the ball and that allowed our defense to play pretty well, despite Judkins running strong and getting yardage all day.

In fairness to Gabriel since I'm feeling charitable after a Vikes win, the talent discrepancy between Jefferson/Addison and Jeudy/whoever else the Browns have at WR was a massive edge for us in this game. Both 18 and 3 caught everything in sight, showing elite hands, routes, and speed. Addison might be a bonehead but that man can play some ball! I hope it works out for him to remain in Minnesota.

Mason again looked great running the ball when he's not fumbling the ball.

I was shocked at how well our offensive line played. I wonder how much jetlag the Browns were feeling this week compared to our guys who'd been in Europe longer, and if that played a part.

Dallas Turner-- I had a weekly thread on this guy last year and I haven't had the energy to do it again. He seems... fine. Not an impact player for us right now by any stretch of the imagination.

I continue to be very, very glad to have Kevin O'Connell as the coach of this team. Kevin Stefanski is a great coach with a great roster who can't squeeze good QB play out of anyone. For years! Think about that and think about the production we've gotten from absolute nobodies. If Carson Wentz wasn't on the Vikings would anyone even be surprised if he was just retired right now? And yet he's kind of balling out! Our skill players help a lot but KO is that guy.

It was ugly at times but I'm thrilled the Vikings won. Just keep the boat afloat for now, who knows what can happen down the road.

Oh, and Myles Price continues to be awesome! I wonder if he's reached out to his purple father Marcus Scherels for advice yet.

So....if Darrisaw is on a pitch count? Why isnt he playing quarters 2 and 4? Instead of being on the sideline at games end???

On this, I personally will be clenched throughout the duration of our entire bye, and then up until-- and possibly beyond-- our first Wednesday practice report.

If it was anything it was a false start, but refs have been letting those split-second-early moves slide. Skule had done that a few times prior to that play. There's a tackle in Kansas City who does this habitually. I think his argument is that he's leaving on the count and the center is just a split second slow in snapping the ball. If it's close like that they tend to let it go.

Obviously what I meant.  The coffee hasn't kicked in after a busy weekend.

Yeah, they’ve been letting tackles go slightly early for a few years now.  I think the general rule is if the back foot doesn’t land before the snap, they’re more or less not getting called for it.  Not a “rule” I’m in favor of, but if the league is allowing it across the board, then we shouldn’t be holding ourselves to a higher standard that makes our lives more difficult.

interesting.  I didn't know about that rule, but have seen that repeatedly from other teams and wondered why it wasn't called.  Now I know.

Maybe they're trying to counter the league emphasis on the Tackles being on the line of scrimmage? They used to ignore if the Tackles lined up slightly off the line of scrimmage

I knew that Gabriel did not have the physical stature that your typical NFL QB has, which is why his stock dropped during the draft.  Oregon keeps putting QBs in the NFL.

But that brief image on TV after the game with 6'5" Wentz talking down to 5'11" Gabriel spoke volumes to me.

Please God, just one Lombardi before I die.

Ryan Wright with a massive flip of the field. Browns are taking over at their 1 yard line after a 77-yard punt and a half-the-distance penalty. Wow.

Vikings limited Myles Garrett to two pressures on 35 pass rushes (5.7%) in win over Browns, his second-lowest pressure rate in a game since 2021, per @NextGenStats

So a make-shift OL like yesterday can do this....U go figure out this league week to week, cause I sure as hell can't.
You know....I wrote my 'not feeling it' post yesterday morning, sent it and thought....'watch, the O-line is going to stand up and play decently'. And that's what happened. I think it shows the backups have some talent. But to your point: I take this league one week at a time because you just never know how its going to go down. I have my thoughts and then its like, lol wow....that was wrong. ;) Look at Brandel here....just finishing a great block: https://x.com/i/status/1975180479172169813

I think the refs had hit their quota of flags by that point. I also saw Skule pull up from his stance a millisecond early a few times and it wasn't called.
