My guy was Trent McDuffie. We had a tussle on the board about his arm length. 13 of 32 1st rounders did not get 2nd contracts. 40% busts. I think that's about par for the course for the 1st round. 5 of the 9 OLs taken were busts.
Based on who I thought would be available, I really wanted Kyle Hamilton. Felt like this was another opportunity for us to pick a Notre Dame S with huge potential to replace the Notre Dame S that was nearing the end of a HOF career.
Kwesi really fucked that up. If we were gonna trade back for a S, we should have just taken the best one at our original pick.

If there was ever a more obvious choice than this I haven’t seen it.

Now that you mention arm length, I wonder if I was out on McDuffie? I know I liked his running mate too.
I might need to stop relying on memory. ;)

You may have mentioned it. But there were a couple on the board who didn't like him for that reason. And not his specific arm length, more that he fell below the specific threshold of 30 inches by 1/4 inch. Ridiculous if you ask me. I think arm length is a big factor for linemen, but it's hard to see how 1/4 makes much difference in a DB—especially when the guy you're talking about has a 41.5 vertical. Two All Pro selections later, I think we can throw that metric into the dumpster.
Was all over Hamilton. Also high on McDuffie and would have been fine with Karlaftis.
That was always my contention that if they wanted a safety so bad, you literally had the best prospect in years inexplicably land right in your lap and you trade down for a much lesser prospect in Lewis Cine. It's literally a miracle that that craptastic draft crop hasn't hindered our success under KOC.
