Tai Felton projects as an immediate contributor from the slot with eventual potential to develop into a starting Z-receiver in systems that prize route technicians over pure athletes. He not only can take the top off defenses with 4.3 speed, but can also be the one moving chains on third down with crafty stems and sharp breaks that corners just can't mirror.

His NFL ceiling will be determined by his ability to add functional strength without sacrificing the quickness that makes him special. Teams running timing-based passing games like San Francisco, Green Bay, and Cincinnati should have Felton highlighted on their draft boards as a potential Day 2 selection. Give him a quarterback who throws with anticipation rather than waiting for receivers to be wide open, and Felton could become one of those receivers who quietly accumulates 70+ catches annually while rarely making highlight reels.

Felton runs angry despite his slender build, and that competitive toughness suggests he'll outperform several receivers selected before him. His development curve hasn't plateaued yet – this is a player still ascending as he enters the league, with the football IQ and technical foundation to become a quarterback's most trusted target on crucial downs.

Honestly, I looked at so few WRs I have zero feel for this guy. Really thought we’d go Samson here.

Slender WR from Maryland you say.

Hope you're right. I'm still holding you accountable for JJM. I will admit he's got some quick cuts and moves like someone else.

Now you want to toss this big of a comp onto the pile too? ;)

Some bone-headed moves in his personal life, hopefully he learns to make better decisions. But I luv what he brings on the field.

I think he is a very solid WR.  That is why I think he is gone when his contract is up.  Don't think we can pay 2 top WRs, especially if we have a replacement for #2.

Amen. He’s easily WR1 on at least a dozen other teams. I’m not sure why he’s such an afterthought here. We control his rights for 3 more years yet all I hear is we need to find his replacement or he’ll be too expensive to keep. If the tightfisted Bengals can pay two top tier WRs I’m pretty sure we can.

I'm reading evals of this guy that say he can separate and ones that say he can't. The Strib beat writers are saying the team got him to return kicks which makes sense.

I agree on Addison being a 1,  in a 1a, 1b scenario,  i dont know that he will be the 1A type of guy like JJ or a few others,  but I think he draws more on his next deal than the Vikings can justify paying.

When you carry JJ type contracts,  the rest of that WR room need to be on rookie deals or otherwise very friendly veteran contracts IMO.  Just to many mouths to feed.

Its not about how tight a grip a team has on their cash....its a capped league that has minimums and unspent rolls into the next season raising the minimum.  Not being able to keep Addison is more about cap allocation and 2 top tier WR means you will have to pinch pennies elsewhere,  which usually ends up being OL or DL,  F-THAT....they are just starting to realize that we need to focus on the trenches,  dont want to see that go the other way anytime soon.

I would love to see the blockhead stay and grow up in Minny,  he is an exciting player to watch,   but I dont see the way we do that without damaging the roster elsewhere.

When does the cap become a concern again? Next year? We’re over by about $17 million. Aaron Jones counts for about $16.8 of that. I’m guessing he’s not around for that. Restructuring O’Neil, Hock, Greenard, and maybe Jefferson easily clears that issue as well.

Right now we’re about $17.7 below the cap. I believe our rookie cap is $5.675 million. Let’s say we spend half that surplus on a vet CB, which we won’t, be for arguments sake we carryover $6 million. I’m no Rob Brezinski but I’ve got potential to turn that $17 million cap deficit into easily $30+ million in cap space without breaking at sweat.

Where’s the biggest cap hit typically come from? QB. We’ve got 4 years of minimal cap impact from a hefty QB contract. Plus if we franchise tag him for an additional year to circumvent a huge deal that’s 5 years of minimal to modest impact at the highest cap drainer.

Where’s another big cap hit come from? Edge. We’ve got Greenard’s modest contract and Dallas Turner on a rookie contract for the next 4 years. Another big cap hit comes from CB. Again, Murphy is on a well below market value contract for 3 years.

I truly don’t understand how so many on the board have this unfounded fear of the cap when it’s easily manipulated and circumvented. I go hiking with bears, mountain lions, and rattlesnakes in the area with less concern that many seem to have of the cap.

Never too early to start hand wringing over the cap. Maybe QB on a rookie deal is not the panacea we thought it was? We still have Brian O'Neill due in 2027, Jordan Addison due in 2027. And I don't know how the hell we're going to pay Donovan Jackson AND Justin Jefferson AND JJ McCarthy when the time comes. Oh and don't forget Dallas Turner. We're fucked.

Kinda been the way I have been thinking. The first domino will be O'Neill. Maybe Jackson can play RT lol

If you can get past the fantasy angle and the fact that these guys are annoying as fuck, this has some good insight on Tai Felton.

As a team you are always looking to add more weapons for the QB. Nailor will be a free agent, and was picked in the 6th. We also only have Addison for a couple more years most likely. I said during the draft we seem to always hit on receivers lately. Felton has elite athleticism, good production with a not great QB, he ran all routes moving all over the field. If they were confident on him, and effectively stated they didn’t want to miss on picks, it means they are pretty high on him. I think we will end up really liking this pick. Whether just a KR or becoming our #3 or #4 wide receiver.

Lol.

Maybe Olson could install a sarcasm font for those slow on the uptake.

(This is an example of passive aggressive)

I’d say we’re in pretty good shape for the next 4 years.

Weve already lost 1 year of jjms cheap contract,  next year is most likely a throw away as he will be learing the pro game,  so that wondow is down to 3 years,   we arent going to want to trust the draft so we will need to be adding quality free agents along the way to keep the talent level high... is having cap space a guarantee with KAMs drafting track record?  There will be a lot of unforseen needs over the next few years... but fuck it,  lets throw away a chance at a higher quality player next year because we need a 3rd string RB in a season that isnt likely to produce a real high chance at a lombardi run.

I prefer 1st and 2nd rounders next year over lower tier guys,  we dont know,  we may need to package those picks next year to fill a real hole in the roster.  I just didnt like not having the ammo to move around this year and didnt want to fuck up next years draft.

Agreed. This fascination to some over the RB spot and needing to take one this year is head scratching to me. Why? And the team didn't address it via the Draft, so again its obviously not important to them. It was addressed by resigning Jones and trading for Mason. Easiest thing in the world is to find another RB in final cutdowns in late August to fill out the RB room. RB of the future? Take one high next year, excellent ones come every single Draft year.

Here's our RB for next year, CJ Baxter....or Jeremiyah Love....Justice Haynes....Makhi Hughes....Amarion Peterson

With all the teams that drafted RBs over the weekend, there will surely be RBs released in the final cutdown that will be an upgrade to Chandler.

37 page pinned thread on RBs leads me to believe many were interested in going RB in the draft. I’d say “some” were pretty concerned if not excited about the prospect of having a replacement in hand for Aaron Jones, injury insurance for Mason, and god help us if Chandler has to take significant snaps, especially because he’s proven to be hot garbage in pass protection. But, yeah let’s be a couple bad breaks away from a street FA leading our rushing game. Seems prudent. :dodgy:

This team will not go into its Super Bowl hopeful season with Jones, Mason and Chandler as its only backs. I just don't know what the plan is after missing on them in the draft. Can we draft a back next year? Of course. I'm sure we will. But the numbers don't even add up THIS year.

I mean, look at the two teams in the Super Bowl last year. Eagles have Saquon Barkley, 2nd rounder AJ Dillon, last year's 4th rounder Will Shipley and FIVE other backs, including my sleeper Montrell Johnson Jr they just added. The Chiefs have Pacheco, Kareem Hunt, really good FA Elijah Mitchell, two other free agent backs, and they just drafted Brashard Smith, who we brought in for a top 30.

For a team that wants to run the ball, something's missing.
