Dallas Turner
I know the dude got hurt, needs to put on some strength...
Ive seen him looking to be getting some pressures and dropping back into coverages at times.
I hope he can pick it up the remainder of the season. I had higher (maybe unrealistic) hopes
4 solo tackles
2 Assists
1 sack

Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!

Ahem. For those of you comparing Dallas Turner's rookie campaign to other first-year pass rushers and saying it was a letdown, @pcraigers is here to remind you every situation isn't equal.

Hint? Jonathan Greenard and Andrew Van Ginkel

📰: https://t.co/zmQGeG9YaD pic.twitter.com/78g3LdGMeFVan Ginkel and Greenard were mid/late rounders who took years to develop. We blew the better part of a draft to get Turner. It's an incredibly lazy take on her part.
I hope he pans out but you rarely see teams spending that much to get one guy. When you do that he'd better be a star, not a rotational guy which is all he is so far.
Dallas Turner is a talented kid and the scheme Flores runs is complex. It was going to be tough to get a rookie playing fast with the checks, drops in coverage, etc early in the season . This pick was to make our pass rush a strength... Everyone forgets the past couple years we had Danielle Hunter and no one of note on the other side of him.
We added vets in Greenard and Van Ginkel who both stayed healthy all season and had Pro Bowl years. Greenard missed time in each of his last 3 seasons until this year.
Also Patrick Jones will be moving on and Kwesi and the coaching staff had the foresight to grab a talented guy that dropped to add to our edge rusher room.
Looking back on the comp, we didn't give up as much as we all expected since our picks this year are much later in the round because we made the playoffs.
He showed he has the speed on the edge to be a disruptive player and the INT was a great show of awareness and athleticism. Not many edge guys can drop back and make that play. I feel good about his future here and think he's going to be a stud for us next season.

I agree, I don't think the pick was truly for this year. Most knew he would take a year, and with Flores, the scheme is even harder. We took a chance on a guy that should have been gone by pick 8 at the latest. Next year everyone will step back and say, damn it was worth the wait. RELAX
I'm hopeful and I'd say reasonably confident for his future, but it's also very fair to question KAM trading up for a first round DE a few weeks after he just signed those other guys.
The pick was a bet on Turner's longterm talent and that's absolutely fine and a smart thing to do, provided the talent is worth it. Hopefully Turner is. The flashes were more frequent towards the end of the season, even if the snaps sadly were not.
Flores compared Turner to Cameron Heyward, a guy who was drafted by the Steelers in the 1st round in 2011. Heyward didn't start a single game his first TWO seasons in the league because he was behind good players. He's now a 5X All Pro.
Next year, Turner will again be behind Greenard and Van Ginkel, but he'll likely get all the Jones and Ward snaps, so I expect to see improvement in his impact. But I don't think we'll see the player we all expected until Van Ginkel's 2-year deal expires the following year.
When judging the pick I keep reminding myself the expectations, or my perceptions of the plan. 24 was a year to get things back in the right direction. With six wins the O/U, I can't let a 14 win season ruin my expectations for that direction or plan. He is a young player and I view it as a nice luxury to let him sit and learn and enjoy a season that exceeded expectations.

Turner had the highest percentage of hurries/pressure per snap when in the game as a rookie. Please correct me if that is wrong or a variation of that. I know I read his hurry percentage was a massive 68% or something. Watch the last 7 weeks when he was in the game. Just watch. You will see all you need to know about Turner. He disrupts the game. He will get a lot more plays with Jones being gone. Flores had mentioned a while back when asked about his skill set, "he said, you almost have to make new plays for him." Read between the lines on what Flores said. Turner is a freak, and he causes trouble. People took that as he doesn't get his defense, and he is struggling. That is not what he meant IMO
3 sacks and 1 INT on limited snaps. Needs to get stronger and he will this offseason. I think he'll play more confident being bigger and won't have to think about the D as much. Big Year 2 as far as what the team has in him.

Continuity on D will have a big impact, especially on a 2nd year guy like Turner. Hell, even Gink/Greenard should be more at home in 25 with the scheme.
IF they can aDd a disrupter in the middle? Even better!!

You may have to suck it up this year in the draft and just stay at 24 and get that DT for this defense. There are two guys I want out of this draft. DT Derrick Harmon and OG Luke Kandra. I would be a very happy camper if we only drafted those two guys lol.
I hope we end up having a team that is willing to give us a pick or two for Darnold if we tag him. If a team really wants Darnold, that is their best way to go about it. Ask us what we want and tag him. Allows them not to have to compete with another teams. Let's face it, there will be multiple teams that want him. We just need that ONE team that wants him that much more.
