RIP Charlie Hustle
Pete Rose dead at 83
Nobody played the game harder.
Why isn't Chuck Foreman in the Hall of Fame?
The MLB HOF administration, at least those responsible, should be shamed and harassed for the rest of THEIR lives.
It's hardly a choir boy collective in there, keeping him out was petulant and truly hateful.
KOC, JJM, Flores...make a good plan, or you'll be following Kwesi....
I don't really care much about the HOF issue. The league has a long history of doling out severe punishments for those found to have bet on the game and I'm fine with that. But I grew up a fan of the Big Red Machine and Pete Rose. God that team was talented.

Agreed, I don't care about the HOF issue either. His own doing. But Rose was without a doubt worthy of the Hall....Charlie Hustle indeed. I saw him about 15 years ago in a Caesar's Palace Shops sports memorabilia store signing autographs as my wife and I were walking by, so I just stopped outside to check out the scene for a few minutes. He was about as cantankerous and dismissive a person as I've ever seen signing autographs. Was getting something like $75 a pop. Gross.
I saw a documentary that was shot in his later years and noticed the same thing about his demeanor, I was wondering if he was developing some sort of mental issue like dementia, he used to really care about his image and would at times cheese it up so much it was like cartoon fake, but his total lack of give a fuck just wasnt the real him. ( I saw the same in my Dad as his dementia took hold and eventually ate him )

In the word of his Judge.
The banishment for life of Pete Rose from baseball is a sad end if a sorry episode. One of the game's greatest players has engaged in a variety of acts which have stained the game, and he must now live with the consequences of those acts. There is absolutely no deal for reinstatement.
A. Bartlett Giamatti
Wonder how Giamatti would feel now in the context of betting revenue's current stain on the game. A.B.G. loved the game, as did Pete, just differently.
"Baseball has the largest library of law and love and custom and ritual, and therefore, in a nation that fundamentally believes it is a nation under law, well, baseball is America's most privileged version of the level field." ~ A. Bartlett Giamatti
"There are many who lust for the simple answers of doctrine or decree. They are on the left and right. They are not confined to a single part of the society. They are terrorists of the mind." ~ A. Bartlett Giamatti
Well OK, but I thought he was terrific in Sideways.
