Early bye, but yah - they needed it now.
I hope if (when) they expand to 18 games, they have 2 bye's in the season.
Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!

I wish they would just do it twice with the whole conference, say weeks 7/13 for the NFC and 8/14 for the AFC, and then face a conference opponent coming out of the byes. I hate that some teams get big advantages for bigger games based on scheduling of shit like bye weeks and cross country or international travel games. I think they could do a better job balancing the schedules if they just created some new rules to eliminate some of the issues I stated... and get rid of those fucking thursday night games.

Would the NFL (did the nfl) ever consider Friday night instead of Thursday?
It would allow one more day to rest from Sunday and teams would still get plenty of time to re-coup till their next game.
Wouldnt interfere with college ball either.

I dont know how that would go over competing with local HS games.

The problem isn't so much that they care about player health and safety, it's that Thursday night is proven to be the largest TV audience every week. On Friday night you are competing with every other bit of entertainment people do on Fridays. If you are old like me, you remember must see TV on NBC on Thursday night. Easily the biggest night of the week. So they want those ratings. Hell this year, night before Thanksgiving there is a game, just for the same reason. Lots of eyes looking for something to watch.

I believe it's illegal for them to broadcast an NFL game on Friday or Saturday during the college or high school football seasons or something like that.
Ask your AI about it and specifically "Sports Broadcasting Act of 1961". but basically the government gave the NFL antitrust properties and one of the conditions is that they don't play at the same time as high school or college games which was defined as Friday and Saturday evenings. For them to play a game at those times they would be jeopardizing the contracts they have with the major networks that broadcast their games, so basically they aren't rocking the boat.

NFL won't give up Thursday night game due to $$$$$.
Both teams playing Thursday night should be coming off a BYE. They still get the same number of days off it's just broken up.
Don't trade JJ.
This bye week has been the best bye week in a long time for Minnesota

Agreed. Down side is that it is so early this team will be gassed by Week 18. Teasley knows that.
Instead of trades for big names , I 'd rather see him go for depth.
Hard to gauge what will happen because so many teams will be in fire sale mode. There'll be big names available. Especially Colts. They gave up so much for Gardener they're now forced to trade veterans to try and recoup picks.
I don't recall an upcoming draft affecting NFL teams so much in season before the deadline.
Don't trade JJ.

you are right on the money.
if I was running the players union, those short weeks would be a major part of our next holdout threat. either the players share gets pushed up dramatically and concession are made to allow teams that play those dumb ass games to have as much time off before/after as possible through the use of byes and what not, or the owners are going to be paying dearly for the rights to keep those games. I am talking double digit % increases in the players take of the pot, adjusted for larger rosters, larger practice squads, expanded game day rosters to allow for extra specialists like kick gunners, kick returners, etc (those extra players come out of the owners cut, not the existing players) and a fucking desert bar with DQ softserve in every teams cafeteria.
if the owners balk, then player safety becomes the major talking point. I am talking a gloves off marketing campaign against the NFL owners.
i honestly think that some scheduling adjustments could be made with a 2nd bye week, the mandatory overseas games, as well as the dumb ass thursday games so that a formula could be created to ensure that no teams play on less than optimal damn short weeks, would likely cut into beach time on the bye weeks, but still wouldnt be full contact game weeks. dont start the mid week games until week 6, but then add a Tuesday night game as well to close out the previous week, sorry monday, but you suck anyway. keep it to Sunday and Monday until they bye weeks start, then add the Tuesday and Thursday game for weeks 6 through 12, then back to Saturday Sunday Monday
and I still think the league should go to a full run of division games to start and end the regular season. play each division for for the first 3 and last 3 each year.

100% agree.
From what I can tell Flores and Gruden are both likely to win their lawsuits. If that happens the owners won't have any leverage. IMO the Logical changes and improvements you point out would likely follow.
Gruden lawsuit is scheduled to begin starts May 2027
We'll see?
