SI'com's Albert Breer: Inside the Kyler Murray decision

Not sure what the scenario would be where Minnesota would commit long-term to Murray AND be able to trade JJ for a first round pick. Murray is a 'coup' right now because he hasn't played a game for the Vikings....the rest remains to be determined big time.

I'm glad to see a few on the board are REALLY excited over signing Murray and that potential....but it'll be interesting to watch it play out. One thing that's nice is Kyler was gently used last season...he should be bright eyed and bushy tailed once he's 100% from that foot injury.

A smart thing to do this year is get a new QB3 candidate other than Brosmer. If KOC wants to continue to 'upgrade the QB room', don't forget about developmental. Maybe a guy like Taylen Green from Arkansas. I had mentioned Drew Allar a few weeks ago, but I think he's going to be overdrafted by some team now as he's gotten some low level buzz for some reason.

A scenario where we could get a 1st for McCarthy would be if he plays exceptionally well in the preseason, then Murray misses three or four games and JJ comes in and continues to play at a very high level. I think teams would then see him how they saw him two years ago. National Champion, top 10 pick who's only 24 years old, and whose now proven he can play in the NFL at a high level. That would draw a 1st. That could actually keep him in Minnesota too.

I think I keep Brosmer to see how much he improves his 2nd year.

Yeah, my point is one or the other happens, not both.

Agree, all the debate has been Murray or JJM, but there is a possibility that neither is the answer, which just based on injury history could happen.  I like Brosmer, I think he has a really great quick release and a high football IQ.  He was clearly not ready last year, but I think with more experience he could excel.

I think you always keep looking to improve your QB room, especially when you do not have that franchise guy.  I would still look at a trade for Will Levis as it looks like the Titans are going to give him away.

If something were to happen to make JJ worth a first, we would hopefully keep him and let KM walk. If that were to happen, KOC wouldn't need to get the QB whisperer tramp stamp removed and he could expect another contract extension.  But there would have to be a whole lot of good somethings happen to get his value to a day one pick.
