Very good read here for everyone, regardless of your thoughts on the move. **cough**...anyone STILL think JJM isn't done in Minnesota?
"And while Murray still has to win the job from McCarthy, what O’Connell said to Murray did stick with him—that he was the one guy on the market that they could see as a potential longer-range answer, rather than a one-year Band-Aid. The idea of growing with Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, Christian Darrisaw and O’Connell and his staff was already wildly attractive to begin with. The chance to, perhaps, put down roots only made it more so."

The Vikings initial plan in 2025 was to bring back Sam Darnold or Daniel Jones to compete with J.J. McCarthy, per
@AlbertBreer
.
Breer continued saying that the Vikings decided to move in a different direction at QB when they were 4-8 last season and Kyler Murray identified as one of top candidates ?
"Meanwhile, the Vikings were 4–8, and J.J. McCarthy’s growing pains had led to discussions about Minnesota’s next steps at QB—with a reclamation project, like the one the team undertook with Sam Darnold in 2025, a logical option for 2026. That would essentially run back the initial plan for 2025, which was to bring back Darnold or Daniel Jones to compete with McCarthy, before those guys found greener pastures. Murray was one of a handful of guys Minnesota dove into and studied."

That's an exciting thought...for those who still have their wits about them.

lol, oh c'mon now.....we'd all love that because it would mean something special for wins and that all elusive playoff win and beyond under KOC.
I'm almost past my mourning stage with 9. I personally severely and grossly overestimated McCarthy's impact on this team when drafted...that's getting harder and harder to deny. I still have hope but if I 'trust in KOC' then I have to trust his assessment of McCarthy seeing it all up close and personal. See, I'm fine:

Gotta hand it to ya, Stick. You rarely allow narrative or personal agenda to cloud your judgement.
Most of us thought JJ was a good draft pick. What none of us could have predicted were the 4 injuries that forced him to miss 24 of 34 possible games (and the practice reps that went with them), stunting the development of a very young QB. It’s easy to forget how good JJ looked in that first preseason game against the Raiders before the shit hit the fan. I hope to see more of that this summer.
I think there’s a decent chance he can still become the QB we all thought he’d be. Granted, with Kyler’s signing, that may or may not be with the Vikings. But he’ll get opportunities to show the rest of the NFL what he’s capable of. And it’s in everyone’s best interest that he play well in those moments.

Don't. Why would anybody trust in the assessment of O'Connell at this point? He hasn't won squat, has never developed a young quarterback, and he's playing this upcoming year as if his job is on the line (because it probably is). To me, he has as much or more to prove than any of the quarterbacks this year.

So the speculation here is that 6 games into JJM’s career, the Vikings knew they were done with him? This is the point I’m supposed to latch onto? And that midseason, KOC’s eyes started wandering from the season he was immersed in and started looking for next years rejects that would help him avoid having to develop a young QB?
I feel like while this rumor is supposed to make you think JJM sucks, this rumor actually makes me think KOC looks like a shitty QB Whisperer. He’s like the QB whisperer that only works on guys that are already good, but were on bad teams. What kind of developer of QBs gives up on his guys after 6 games? The same guy that gave up on Cousins, gave up on Dobbs, gave up on Hall, gave up on Mullens, gave up on Darnold, gave up on Howell, gave up on Goff …
This is not a rumor that makes me feel good. Believing this rumor makes things worse for me not better. If this is a true rumor, we should have cleaned house.
I feel like I’m just going to keep believing that KOC thinks both of these guys have potential.

Yeah, we differ on our opinions on KOC....I trust him and believe in him more than you. My only main criticism is it appears he's throwing out the baby with the bathwater already. It is what it is.
I think KOC's tale will be told this year with Kyler Murray. If he hits, it'll be tough to say he doesn't know what he's doing. In fact, you wont be able to say that. If he doesn't, he'll have taken a swing with Murray and have nothing left of value for him with McCarthy. Starting all over at the position. Gross.
