  Div. 3 College Player rushes for....522 yds..on 20 carries
Posted by: badgervike - 10-19-2025, 11:27 AM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (2)

Curry College running back Montie Quinn just kept going for his Division III school Saturday.

By the end of Curry's 71-27 win over Nichols, Quinn had taken down the NCAA record for all divisions by rushing for 522 yards on 20 carries while tacking on seven touchdowns.

"What Montie did today was nothing short of amazing. Breaking the NCAA rushing record is a monumental achievement," Curry coach Todd Parsons said.

Five of Quinn's touchdown runs were over 50 yards, with two topping 80 yards in the second half.

He broke the standing NCAA and Division III record of 465 set by Heidelberg's Cartel Brooks in 2013. The FBS record for rushing yards in a game is 427, set by Samaje Perine for Oklahoma in 2014.

And Quinn could have had more, as he sat out the Colonels' final two drives following his 85-yard touchdown run with 9:23 to play.

Quinn has 1,450 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns this season. He has topped 110 yards in all six of Curry's games, going over 200 yards three times.

But nothing like Saturday.

"I'm just humbled and grateful. Breaking the record is something I never imagined coming into today," Quinn said. "The O-line was dominating all game, receivers were blocking like crazy, and coaches put us in position to make plays. This belongs to all of us. I just happened to be the one carrying the ball."

  The return of Cashman
Posted by: purplefaithful - 10-18-2025, 04:58 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (6)

The Vikings’ defense has been a mixed bag.

The pass defense has been stingy, but they are 24th in rushing yards allowed. It makes defensive tackle Harrison Phillips’ trade look like a head-scratcher.

In reality, they haven’t had Cashman roaming from sideline to sideline, hassling opposing quarterbacks and marshaling the defense. He’s smart, decisive and a reliable tackler — and tackling has been an issue for fellow linebacker Ivan Pace Jr.

Outside linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel continues to recover from a neck injury but was a limited participant in practice during the week. Missing both Cashman and Van Ginkel has been a blow to Brian Flores’ defense.

Now that Cashman’s hamstring is bulletproof — his word — again, the Vikings’ defense is closer to being whole.

That’s the game.

Stop Barkley and the Vikings are 4-2. Cashman will be an important figure in that cause.

“I think a guy like Blake Cashman coming back is critical as well because he assumes that green dot position,” Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell said. “And we have just seen since we got Blake, when he’s out there and we’re playing the type of defense that we’ve been accustomed to seeing; Blake’s got a lot to do with it. So very excited to get him back.”

Bottle up Barkley. Challenge quarterback Jalen Hurts to hurl them through the air.

Cashman, the Vikings leading tackler a year ago, will make a difference on Sunday.

While the recovery of quarterback J.J. McCarthy and members of the offensive line dominated the discussion during the week, Cashman’s return cannot be understated.

  Another Dallas Turner Thread

After a disappointing rookie season, through 5 games in 2025 Turner has posted:
8 solo tackles
1 sack
0 forced fumbles
He also has 3.5 tackles for loss and 1 interception

When I watch the kid in isolation, he's pretty much out of the play once the OT gets their hands on him...But it also makes me wonder if BFlo is using the kid right or not?

I look back at Doleman:

1985: 0 sacks
1986: 3 sacks
1987: 11 sacks
1988: 8 sacks
1989: 21 sacks

If memory serves me right, Doleman was asked to play LB his first 2 years? It wasnt till 87 when he was moved to DE in the 4/3 scheme.

Again I ask, is BFlo using Turner correctly??? That said, I dont think he's the guy for a 3/4 DE...I'm not sure he's an ILB type/size?

Its way too early to call him a bust, but he is (for me at least) a disappointment.

  The 2026 LB Class
Posted by: JustInTime - 10-18-2025, 07:59 AM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (8)

First noticed him last year. Career path like Urlacher. Puts Pace back on full time ST/part timer which appears to be his ceiling after badly regressing. Insurance for the annual Cashman injury. Currently the best combination of need/talent. Probably have to move up Day 2 and we have plenty of ammo to do so.

37. Sonny Styles, LB, Ohio State

There were times last year when Styles (6-4, 237) still looked like a safety learning how to be a linebacker. That’s not happening anymore. Now in his second season as a full-time linebacker, Styles has yet to miss a tackle in 293 snaps — and still moves like he could play safety again.

I’d probably put Fran at QB. Sewell will overtake Yary. Otherwise, looks pretty good to me.

Wentz QB1 vs PHI, Brosmer QB2

McCarthy emergency 3rd QB. Blake Brandel starting at C.

Per KO.

KO kept saying JJM is progressing, etc... Didn't say whether he was talking about the injury or rookie struggles. Hmm.

EDIT- Okay at the very end of the presser O'Connell did refer to getting JJM where they want to get him at, "health-wise".

Armchair take- I'm sticking with my prediction that JJM starts against the Chargers. TNF homefield advantage is massive and the Chargers are a good but not elite team. It's a decent spot to get him back out there. But in reading the tea leaves (can't believe I'm saying this...), I think whether or not we see McCarthy in six days hinges on how well Wentz acquits himself against Philly. Wild times in Vikingland as always.
