  Is Zimmer an effective Leader of this team?
Posted by: TBro - 10-01-2017, 11:50 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (31)

I know there are a lot of Zimmer supporters on this board and I have lightly brought this up after the Norv
scandal and again at the beginning of this year. I think Zimmer is a good defensive coordinator, but when
it comes to in game management, especially on the offensive side of the ball where he is very hands off,
Zimmer led teams continue to come up short time and time again against the better teams in NFL. I think
we get routinely outcoached. I thought today was another example of that on the Offensive side of the ball.
Loosing Cook was a huge part of that since we didn't seem to have any answers once he went out of the game,
but our inability to attack the Lions weakness at LB, not getting our TE's involved in the Passing game until
the last drive when Rudolph finally made some plays is typical of a Shurmur designed gameplan when facing
better defenses. He struggles under the pressure of adversity. This team does not seem mentally tough or
very disciplined when the pressure is on. Tampa Bay was missing 6 starters on defense last week which I know
is a bit of an exaggeration because I'm including the players that were playing hurt. Still, that was not a full
strength defense that Keenum picked apart and we had the luxury of playing with a comfortable lead the entire
game.

I don't see this year ending well for the Vikings or Zimmer/Shurmur/Spielman and I think the coaching staff's
in game management skills will ultimately be their downfall.

  The decision Keenum regrets the most in loss to Lions

Going inside one especially bad Case Keenum decision that hurt Vikings' chances of beating Lions

Case Keenum wishes he could have a goal-line play back, but it's too late for that now.

Sensing pressure coming from his left side, he called for the line to slide left. In that particular protection call, Lions left defensive end Anthony Zettel becomes what the Vikings call the “Hawkeye.”

“The ‘Hawkeye’ is free,” said right guard Joe Berger.
Free as in there’s no intention of blocking him. And no one did. Right tackle Mike Remmers slid left to block the tackle. Berger slid left and had no one to block.

“I thought I saw something and got fooled,” Keenum said. “Changed the protection to the wrong protection.”

  Well, at least we get Floyd back...

Would have been nice to see the full 3 WR corps with a game breaker at tail-back.

Maybe LM and a platoon can give the team enough juice so we're not one-dimensional on offense???

Lose star QB at the start of the season...

Lose star RB a couple games into the season...

I'm just waiting for the offensive linemen to start going down faster than Miller Lites at a Packer tailgate....

Pete talks from US Bank Stadium after the Vikings 14-7 loss to the Lions.  He talks:

*  Opportunity lost (thought the Lions did not look as good as last year)
*  Dropped Interceptions
*  Horrid officiating (his words)
*  Why Zimmer on 4th and goal at the 15 with 3 minutes left
*  The OLine takes a step back
*  Defense is very solid
*  Dome deflated after Cook injury
*  His thoughts on Cook injury, before he knows for sure the prognosis
*  Why use the wild cat at all
*  Early thoughts on the Bears and Viking troubles playing there.

  Ugly game- turnovers key again

Vikings turn the ball over too much and missed too many turn over opportunities on D.   Killer plays or lack thereof.

Hoping Cook isn't an ACL too

Hope Sam comes back next week.

  Almost sad watching AP marginalized in New Orleans...almost
Posted by: StickyBun - 10-01-2017, 01:57 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (5)

I think he's got 2 carries for -2 yards. The broadcasters mentioned that Peyton is reluctant to play Peterson much because its basically telegraphing what their play calling will be. And he's (AP) hating it, you can see from his body language on the field and sidelines. And he seems a half step slow now.
