Who will save the Minnesota Vikings’ offense?
Posted by: purplefaithful - 10-03-2017, 11:13 AM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (3)

Heading into Sunday’s matchup with the Detroit Lions, the Minnesota Vikings couldn’t have been more excited about their offense.
They ranked No. 2 in the NFL in total yards after three weeks and sported two receivers in the top five and the second most productive running back. But after Dalvin Cook suffered a season-ending injury and backup quarterback Case Keenum struggled, the Vikings’ offense appears much more shaky.

Since Cook was the team’s leader in yards from scrimmage, replacing him is nearly impossible. Few running backs in the NFL have his big-play capability and versatility. That doesn’t mean the Vikings’ offense has to sink to the bottom half of the league, where they have lived since Mike Zimmer took over in 2014, but it does mean the offense will need a hero.
Who could step up and save the offense? Let’s have a look…

With Cook's season over, Vikings look how to make up for loss
Posted by: purplefaithful - 10-03-2017, 11:11 AM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (4)

The Vikings’ fears about Dalvin Cook’s left knee were confirmed Monday morning, when a MRI showed the rookie running back tore his anterior cruciate ligament in the third quarter of Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions. He will miss the remainder of the season.
Coach Mike Zimmer said Cook will have surgery once the swelling in his knee subsides, and added the running back has additional damage to his knee typically associated with torn ACLs.
“Like most of these ACLs, there’s a little bit of cartilage; I think a meniscus,” Zimmer said. “It’s a normal, typical ACL.”

“He’s a great kid. I’m extremely impressed with what he’s done to this point,” Zimmer said. “It’s obviously a terrible thing for him and for us but we’ll move forward and go from there. But he’s a great worker, and I have no doubt that he’ll come back from this.”
Cook had run for 66 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries Sunday. His 354 yards in the first four games of his career were the second most in Vikings history, behind only Adrian Peterson’s 383.
It is Peterson’s example that the rookie will now look to follow.

Not sure if this makes me feel better or not.  Likely just makes me feel like Pete, more ticked off at what was left on the table.

Quote:The Lions made three trips to the red zone on Sunday against the
Vikings and went 1-for-3 at finishing the possessions inside the 20-yard
line with a touchdown.
Two of the trips that Detroit made
occurred on possessions that started after turnovers by the Vikings on
the Minnesota side of the 50-yard line. The other occurred at the end of
an 82-yard drive by Detroit, the only time the Lions netted more than
35 yards on a possession all day.

They had one drive.  1!   And we can't score more than 7 points.  Just like last year, the defense is playing lights out with no help from the offense.  Yes the D could have had some INTs and could have tackled better, but 1 fricken drive of more than 35 yards.  All the offense has to do is not turn the ball over and we win.
