Bengals released CB Dre Kirkpatrick. This was expected following the additions of Trae Waynes and slot CB Mackenzie Alexander in free agency. A six-game starter in '19 before being placed on injured reserve with a knee injury, Kirkpatrick's release saves the team $8.29 million against their books this upcoming season and $18.14 million through 2021. The former first-round pick ends his tenure in Cincinnati with 10 interceptions and 65 deflections across 99 appearances (including 67 starts) under his belt. He'll likely land as competition in nickel packages elsewhere prior to the draft.
RELATED:  Vet familiar with Zim. Definitely worth a look.

Unless his knee injury was serious, he makes so much sense for the Vikings' needs. If they don't try to bring him in, it strains any belief they aim to reinforce the secondary with veteran help.

Or they can't afford him. They only offered Robey-Coleman the vet minimum. He didn't sign for much more. Tells you where Rick and Brez are at right now.

TBD on what/if the #Vikings do. I am told his knee is doing great (injured it Week 6 then missed rest of year). Vikings do have a solid relationship with his side, and their new DBs coach knows Kirkpatrick well.

He's certainly worth looking into as a veteran to help stabilize the corners. I wonder if his signing will be delayed until teams can medically evaluate him in person?

I sure hope they find a way to sign him. His veteran presence would be a welcome addition.

Kirkpatrick or Joseph would a good pick up.  Dre being younger would be a nice vet addition

Hill, Kirkpatrick, Hughes in the slot with Boyd, top 3 round CB would be a nice unit ESPECIALLY if the DL can generate interior pass rusher

Probably the case for TW of the Redskins too...No way you can sign these guys without medicals...

There are some strategic ways around this. Something other teams have done is created vesting guarantees or signing bonus deferral until the completion of a satisfactory physical.

So if you have a player "Bob" signing a 1 year $10M deal with $4M guaranteed at signing you can go ahead and put pen to paper. But in the contractual language the team is protected from "Bob" showing up missing a toe since he needs to successfully pass a physical to achieve the $4M in guaranteed money. If he does not pass the physical the team can still opt to keep "Bob" on his 1 year $10M deal, but they cut him without any salary cap implications. Agents don't necessarily fear a deal like that since it would take a lot for a team to back out of a deal since they'd be blackballed in the agent community if there weren't legitimate physical ailments.
