Case is now the future

I think Case is the immediate future if he doesn't handcuff the cap.  15 mill or so over the next 2 to 3 years while Sloter develops and another prospect is added.  We will likely need another vet for next season though.
I'm all for a Keenum-Sloter type scenario if its true what Guru says about Minnesota LOVING Kyle Sloter. Get Sloter to start in 19' or 20'.
That's the same mistake that the Broncos made with Simien. Now their super bowl window is closed. Although the Vikings love Sloter I would never pencil him in as a future starter until he proves something in a live game or preseason scenario.

case is a very easy guy to like, but still doesnt seem to be a guy that could carry a team on his own. if he’ll stay for a decent amount as we develop sloter or a pick so we can also sign diggs, barr, hunter, etc... sure. but if he wants 20M+, i doubt it.
um........he pretty much carried this team today. one shit pass which happens.  otherwise he threw everything you could ask for. most of those passes were nuts on a nat acurate.
It wasn't just that one throw.

The one to Jarius to put us in field goal range.  Or the one to Thielen.  That was a solid performance.
he threw balls that were caught yes,  but he leaves a lot of yards on the field because he doesnt lead his receivers very well,  but... the balls are completed which is the most important part.    there is room for improvement,  the question then becomes can he improve or are we seeing his ceiling?  at his age I dont see arm strength improving so I dont know if he will ever be able to put enough on a flatter trajectory pass,  the lob passes may be his compensating?
Funny people using some of the great catches as proof of a great QB.  I like Case, but this was the Washington game all over again.  Playing well, gets careless and thankfully we win.

The INT off the back foot while getting hit was the epitome of what you don't do as a QB.  Saints just scored, one play and we give it back to them deep our end?  That was a huge turning point in the game.

Insane that people would want to pay him franchise money and handcuff the team.  He is a solid starter in the right offense.  But he wasn't solid yesterday.
I cant believe how dismissive people are about the concerns.  Yes he does some things really good,  probably one of the best in the league in extending plays and keeping his eyes down field,   but decision making is a big part of the position and we all know how Zim is when it comes to limiting turn overs and Case once again showed a lack of sound decision making in that pick,  he needs to do better especially next week on the road in what should be an even tighter game.

its funny how many people were down on Teddy because of his lack of arm strength,  but seem to be fine with Cases weak throws.   I think Teddy has the stronger arm but some how its not an issue now.

with all that said,  the Vikes do need to make him a decent offer if they think they can keep him in an offense that favors his skills,   I think he is likely in that 20 million per year range for a contract average.   I keep hearing 15 million getting tossed out... Tyrod freaking Taylor made that much on his last deal.  And really the only contracts smaller than that are rookie deals and journeyman back ups.  Case has warts, and I dont think he will replicate this year again, (lightning in a bottle)  but I think he can be a pretty damn good place holder and keep us in the playoffs for a few years until we can find that guy with the big arm and great decision making... i  mean 3 years right...should be long enough to find a franchise QB.... how hard can it be right?
Pick your poison?

1.  Case Keenum $15M a season 2-3 yrs
2.  Teddy Bridgewater Prove it deal
3.  Sam Bradford 3 yr $20M s season

I hope we can keep Case and Teddy but I doubt Teddy decides to stay if someone guarantees him the starting spot.
I dont think you will get Case for 15 per year.  That is the basement for starting veteran QBs.  If you think he is as good as you say,  why the hell to people keep thinking he will play for Tyrod Taylor money?  maybe I am way off,  but I dont see Case thinking he is a cheap player after the way he has played this year.  I think he will want to either stay in MN or stay with Shurmur,  I think its very likely that Shurmur would want to take Case with him to AZ ( I say thats where he ends up)

I dont know if Sam gets more than a year @20 million unless there are a lot of team outs and health clauses in it.

Teddy,  after he got shut down yesterday,  I have no idea where he is at in terms of being able to play and thus his value.
He's not going to get stafford money.  I'm betting he'll get escalators in a contract that can pay up to $20M but not $20 out the gate.  The worst thing with Case is he's already 30.  Its not like you're going to build around him.  He is at most a couple year bandaid.  Not the best but not the worst QB out there.

If you have a better QB option spill the beans man?  What would make you happy?  Right now we're all fans spending someone elses money and planning the future of guys when we can't possibly know what they feel/want.
who the hell said anything about stafford money?   you say 15 million,  i am simply saying that you are dreaming if you think a guy riding a hot streak like Case is will sign for basement dollars.  you are all in on Case at 15 million,  and I likely would as well,  but I am expecting him to command between 20 and 23 if he completes this amazing run.  as of right now I say he will see offers in the 20 million dollar range.  so i ask you,  how high do you feel comfortable going on Case with the escalating price tag?  At what point do you say that is to much to spend on a guy with the limitations that he has despite his one good/great season.  how long do you sign him for at that higher salary?   He has 1 good year and 5 where he his play really yo yo'd .
Fair point.  I max out around $18M with performance bonuses to $22M

Go fuck yourself.   Who makes you smarter?

Let's go back the past month and look at who thinks Teddy is better than Case and should be our qb.
Does it make you feel better to tell another VIKING fan to fuck off???  Now if he was a Packer/Saint/Seachicken fan I could see but geez why can't we all just have a debate without going personal on it.

And no you aren't the only guilty.  But telling someone to fuck off is going to get the thread closed.

Is there any conversation to be had with bringing in outside talent?  Or is it safe to assume next years starter in currently on the team?

I see the deficiencies in Case's passing and I know you guys have a point with all of that. No doubt. I was not a happy camper when Case threw that baaad pass. That said, I guess for me the 2 best things about Case are his fearlessness and his pocket awareness/mobility. There is NO WAY Sam could have outmaneuvered anything last night, coming off of 5 practices and 4 months of rehabbing his knee. That is just the flat honest truth. And, I'm not sure if Sam could've been successful last night period. They pushed our O-line around all night. Their defense came to play. They are much improved and their team is much improved overall. We got out of that game by less than the skin of our teeth. We had a miracle happen but it couldn't have happened if not for Case doing his thing and he did it multiple times.
IMO, sometimes you have to go with the guy who fits your team best even if he has some fair-sized warts. Case fits our team. He's a fiery competitor, he's mobile, he's a good leader. I have doubts if we could have made it this far with Sam or Teddy leading us (and let me tell you that hurts to say because I love Teddy). I would love to see us keep both Case and Teddy, but it is more than likely going to be impossible to do that unless they both want to be here...and I can't imagine that either one of them wants to have to fight for the job in training camp again next season.
No one is saying we should bench Case.  But saying this game makes him worth a huge contract is just bizarre.  As MB sez, he has earned the contract conversation.  But he isn't a QB you break the bank on.

But I wasn't saying that at all. A huge contract was not part of my post. I think my post is more about here in the now than anything. I watched the game too and I saw what happened with that bad pick. It ripped my guts out and I hated it. And, I even said to my family that this is the very frustrating thing about Case.
In my best dream we'd keep Case and Teddy. But of course the likelihood of that is almost nil. I will say that in this moment, right now, this season, Case is the guy (of our QB group) who can pull off this sort of stuff, and you have to have a horse shoe shoved up your ass at this time of year.
Two things--in the multiple scenarios that occurred during that game last night, we saw some passes that could have went either way. They had to be thrown, guys. Because if, for example, Sam was out there with his ultra conservative 5 yard dump offs we would not have won. If Teddy had been out there with his tentativeness at times we would not have won. And, when I'm saying this I'm saying it in reference to a healthy Sam and a healthy Teddy. Those guys play that way. Sam is not a good QB under pressure. Teddy is better but  he can tend to hold onto the ball. We had a guy playing last night that, for all of his warts, got us the win in a game we probably shouldn't have won (at least if you go by the second half).

I will he goddamned if anyone becomes arrogant about how fucking smart they are or calls me names ...

My vikings won with our qb Case Keenum.  He has earned a contract.  I am sorry for the Teddy fans that think Teddy is more accurate (he isn't) or has a better arm (he doesn't).

LMAO one fucking interception after a divisional playoff win.  Better numbers than Brees.

You guys can analyze all you want.

I am am so sorry Teddy isn't the qb.
You're inability to take context into account is the real head-scratcher here, not our well-stated positions.

That wasn't just some regular old interception that could happen to anyone.

That was a Kizeresque dumb throw. And he made at 6 more of those during the season that mystically doinked off of Defenders hands.

Why do you think the Head Coach of such a good team would say that his QB has a horseshoe?  Because it's been true the whole year and plain to anyone but the Case homers.

I don't give a rat's ass if Teddy, Sam or Case QBs this team. I just want the team to win. Period. Throwing boneheaded picks in the Playoffs doesn't usually lead to wins.  Keenum cleans it up and stops taking bad sacks then he deserves to be the guy. If he doesn't Philly will be in the Super Bowl.
Case has won. Period. Even when he throws a pick.

I also don’t care who plays QB, hell I wanted Christian Ponder to do well. We all want the next Brady, or Brees, but even Brees has only won one Super Bowl, and that was with a lot of bad officiating.
