Just read that the Eagles are being allowed to talk contract w/ Greenard’s agent, this deal could be going down soon…

It would seem that terms have been agreed on for them to give permission. At that point, you would have to either match the offer or trade him otherwise you would have a very disgruntled player. I do not trust doing any kind of deal with Philly, they never lose a deal. Also, would not be trading him to one of the contenders in your conference.

Its a definite step toward a trade if they are trying to work out a new contract beforehand. I'll believe it when I see it and it better be for Philly's #23 selection in round 1.

He's not going to bring you a first rounder, and if he walks next year as a free agent, you likely get a third round compensatory pick. So lets assume a team offers a second-rounder for JG -- would you trade him for what is essentially a swap of a 2026 second rounder for a late 3rd in 2027? Doesn't seem like value to me...
That 3 in 27 is more like a 4 in terms of value, so a 2 in 26 would be significantly better than waiting and hoping for a comp pick, especially when a FA signing of our own could cancel out that comp pick next year. Better to take.the 2 in 26 if the plan is to let him walk in 27 anyway.

Crosby and Greenard both turn 29 this summer.
This is their comparisons over the last 3 seasons:
Crosby started 40 games had 32 sacks over that time
Greenard started 42 games had 27.5 sacks of that time
If Crosby was worth two first round picks to Baltimore, I don't see how Greenard is not worth at least a first round and a third. You also throw in the fact Greenard was slow to develop and become a starter so has a lot less mileage on his body. Also there is the salary cap issue, his cap hit this year is $22.15 million. Actually a bargain when you consider Hendrickson's contract with Baltimore and the fact Hendrickson is 3 years older than both Greenard and Crosby. I think a first and a third rounder is the least I would take for him.

I don't think it's quite an apples to apples comparison. You have to consider that Greenard's numbers are inflated by the Flores send-everyone defense. Many of his sacks are clean ups.
I think the minimum I would take is a 2nd and a 4th. Look at the Eagles and 49ers. Eagles have two 3rds and two 4ths. 49ers have four 4ths. They also have pick 23 and 27 respectively.
I think the Vikings are right for playing hardball on this. You don't get the deal you need, then just keep him. Greenard may be holding their feet to the fire though, because he's clearly not happy with his contract.

Greenard has far more leverage with the Vikings than those believing JJM will force a trade.
Vikings are right to hold their ground for the right deal
Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!
