The Raiders are releasing Geno Smith, happening for sure. He can be had for the league minimum like Kyler Murray because of guaranteed salary that the Raiders are paying him. Expect to be on Viking's radar.

I think I am still on the JJM train for this year,   and I see my preferred vets as 1a: Carr  1b: Geno.

It will be very hard for KOC to pass on Kyler if he wants to come to Minnesota for league minimum. Imagine if he has a breakout season and takes his team into the playoffs while JJM suffers more injuries and Jefferson has another wasted season. KOC will be fired. I doubt he is willing to take that risk.

The Las Vegas Raiders will release the quarterback at the start of the new league year on Wednesday after just a single season with the team, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported on Friday.

Releasing Smith was an expected move as the Raiders own the No. 1 overall pick of the 2026 NFL Draft and are widely expected to select Indiana's Fernando Mendoza.

Parting ways with Smith was a transaction that was advantageous for Las Vegas to make prior to March 13, when Smith would have received an additional $8 million in fully guaranteed salary. Per Over the Cap, cutting Smith will save the Raiders $8 million on the salary cap, while forcing them to eat $18.5 million in dead money.

Flip that around,  KOC brings him in, he is what he is,  the team flounders to another 1 and done playoff loss,   and is stuck picking in the 20s next year when we have no shot at a premium qb prospect, assuming they dont then try and roll back with JJM again.  I really dont see a win for KOC here unless one of these options balls out,   but I dont see KM as a long term solution.  He doesnt seem to me to really love the game,  he seems to approach it like something he has to do.  ( in fairness I dont watch a lot of cardinal games,  but the ones I have seen I have never really seen the infatuation with KMs game. a lot of flash at times,  fun to watch, but so was passtronaut,  until he wasnt.

At this point, Murray and Geno are the only QBs worth considering IMO. Geno isn't a bad option at all.
