Interesting take from a legend...It was the 60's, you know all those black artists went back to their segregated dressing rooms and to the back of the bus on the way home in those days. I've also heard lots of Motown artists expressing gratitude for the opportunities the Sullivan platform gave them. Many appeared 2, 3 or 4 times over the years.

A woke person is likely going to say that either there’s overt racism/sexism happening (which gives you a viewpoint, like “All conservatives are racist”) or systemic racism/sexism is happening (“We know you most people aren’t racist racist, but there’s this hidden form of racism called systemic racism that leads to differing outputs”). • Secondarily, a common frame is the victim-oppressor worldview. I don’t think this is every woke person, but I think it’s extremely common. Instead of it being a systemic problem and a victim group. There’s the victim group and the other group is treated as an oppressor. I think there’s truth in it historically. Some people from white countries colonized other people, etc. Some men treated women badly. This gets turned into a stereotype situation, where “White people are currently colonizers and are bad”, “Men abuse women and are bad”. We switch from some people of a group are bad to the whole group is bad. • How do we fix this gap? A woke person is going to think that we need to preferentially treat the lower performing group … (at the expense of those in the higher performing group). You’ll get things like “We need to be more diverse” which means that race or gender become important criteria in a person’s worthiness for a job or getting into school or something like that. It could be “We need to use taxpayer money to help people of certain races/genders”. I think 60’s era equality focused more on the removal of prejudices, whereas modern wokeism focuses on creating prejudicial systems that benefit groups that are underperforming in whatever the metric is. • Lack of power/agency. This is not all woke people, but it’s common. The victim doesn’t have the ability to oppress others, because … they are by definition the victim. White people can be racist. Black people can’t be racist, because they don’t have the ability to be racist, because only white people have power and because they are black they can’t have power, thus they can’t be racist. I happen to believe peaceful protests are a god given right in this country as much as carrying a gun. And 1/2 this country did not vote for the current Potus - thats a lot of people who have a different opinion. My wife (and neighbors) were at one of the many No Kings rallies here in MN today.
