We needed a WR. We paid 1 round of drafting in ‘26 and 2 rounds in ‘27
Given Kewsi’s picks….does it really matter? We still get the same number of picks. Those day 3 picks are a gamble at best. Not to mention, we seem to do better on UDFAs anyway.

I have to agree it's a little bit of an overpay. I thought we could get him for a sixth but we have an incredibly strong three deep receiver corps for a whole season within our Super Bowl window. Maybe he has two years in him?? Also depends on if they picked up some salary.

It's essentially downgrading next year's 5th rounder to a 7th rounder, then in '27 downgrading our 4th rounder to a 5th rounder. Net picks are the same.

Their fourth will be a low fourth and we get back a decently high fifth most likely and it occurs in 2027. That's a lot different. lol The fifth next year is more painful when compared to the seventh. This is a slight not huge overpay. We are in our window and have loaded up on draft picks in the next two drafts.

They're definitely viewing him as wr3 for the next 2 years. Pure speculation, but I wonder if JJM felt he had really good chemistry with Adam this summer and said so.

At first glance, I dont like the comp. Anything more than a 6th and I was going to poo-poo it.
Any comp with 4th rd in it kicks in my reflux.
I could give a Fck about the salary, its chump change in nfl books.
The plus is locker room presence, good target for JJM. Maybe he's got more than 1 year left in him?
IF (big if) we get a couple of good years production for a WR3? I guess i wont care much about my 4th turning into a 5th.

I just posted a similar sentiment regarding this might need to be viewed as a two year thing, not one...
And yah, I suspect JJM and Theilen probably hit it off well working out together this summer - or this trade aint happening.

Thats an excellent point....There may not be a hella lot separating the 4th from the 5th?

The '27 exchange is hard to predict, but the way things stand now, ours is likely a low 4th rounder, and theirs is likely a high 5th rounder. I mean it might just be a 5 to 10 slot downgrade. So that's negligible. Not going to lose sleep over that. The crux of the trade is downgrading next year's 5th for a 7th. Meh....too much for a 35 year old receiver, but the Vikings were pretty desperate here. Our WR2 going into the opener was Tim Freaking Jones until this news hit.

What I'm hearing is the 2026 7th and 2027 5th are BOTH conditional. Sounds like it Thielen is active for 6 games or more, we get the 2026 7th but not Carolina's 2027 5th. So if that happens... we get Thielen + 2026 7th for our 2026 5th and 2027 4th. Terrible trade comp, Kwesi blinked hard.

In terms of draft position, this trade costs us about 15-20 draft slots in 2026. Carolina's pick is likely going to be top 7-8 in the 5th and the Vikings should pick in the bottom 3rd of the 4th. It doesn't say what the conditional part of the 2027 comp is but a 6th and a 7th round pick are basically crapshoots either way. Same number of picks and dropping 15 or 20 draft slots to get Thielen seems like a win to me. He'll certainly solidify the WR room immediately. Now go find us a CB.
