Vikings Set Initial 53-Man Roster for 2025

EAGAN, Minn. — The Vikings reduced their roster to 53 players on Tuesday in accordance with the NFL's deadline.
Minnesota executed a multipronged approach that began last week with trading veteran defensive lineman Harrison Phillips to the Jets and continued with trades of QB Sam Howell to the Eagles on Sunday and Mekhi Blackmon to the Colts Monday.
A total of 11 players (nine were waived and two had contracts terminated) were released Sunday afternoon, and two more were waived Monday, continuing a reduction from the offseason total of 91 players.
Tuesday's sequence included utilizing Reserve Lists, as well as placing players on waivers and terminating contracts.
Teams have until Wednesday to claim players who were waived and can also sign up to 16 players for their practice squads (17 if one is an International Player Pathway participant). Veterans with at least four accrued NFL seasons whose contracts were terminated by clubs are free to sign at any point.
Vikings General Manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah is scheduled to participate in a media session on Thursday.
Here's the first look at which Vikings are on the initial 53-man roster for 2025, which includes 25 players on offense, 25 on defense and three specialists.

Austin Keys, Tavierre Thomas, Chambliss, Richter, Tim Jones, Myles Price. I have a feeling a few of these are pending trades or other acquisitions. In fact, the only units that seem set in stone as is are QB, DL and the specialists.

7 Undrafted Free Agents Make Vikings Initial 53-Man Roster of 2025

EAGAN, Minn. — One, two, three, four, five, six, seven.
Count 'em up. That's how many undrafted rookies made the Vikings initial 53-man roster Tuesday.
Quarterback Max Brosmer, outside linebacker Chaz Chambliss, guard Joe Huber, linebacker Austin Keys, wide receiver Myles Price, tight end Ben Yurosek and defensive lineman Elijah Williams survived the cut.
Strong post-draft additions were important because of Minnesota's relatively small 2025 draft class, in which the organization selected G Donovan Jackson, WR Tai Felton, DL Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins, LB Kobe King and TE Gavin Bartholomew. The latter currently is on the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform list.
The inclusion of seven new UDFAs on the 2025 roster, however, wasn't a necessity. Rather, it's a testament to the extensive evaluation process by General Manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah and his staff, and their nuanced understanding of the kinds of players who align well with what Vikings coaches want.
Each one of the seven overcame great odds to land a role on this year's team.
Brosmer advanced from FCS New Hampshire to local fame with the Gophers and earned his keep with a consistent training camp and impressive preseason that ended with a poised performance at Tennessee.

Chambliss rebounded from an injury that sidelined him early in camp and showed a good nose for the ball, with 11 tackles in exhibition action, and versatility on special teams noted last week by Special Teams Coordinator Matt Daniels. His teammate at Georgia, Yurosek (also teammates with Ingram-Dawkins), was viewed by the club as an extra draft pick when he signed following the annual event. Yurosek refined his receiving chops at Stanford and his blocking prowess at Georgia. Both were evident the past few months.
Huber hailed from Wisconsin, which has a reputation for being an offensive line factory, after beginning his college career at Cincinnati. In his first NFL game experience against Houston, he received a rock-solid 94.7 offensive grade from Pro Football Focus. At 6-foot-5 and 310 pounds, Huber gives the team outstanding size and depth on the inside of the o-line. He wore a Vikings uniform in youth football too.
Keys, a product of Mississippi and Auburn, gained trust from the coaching staff to log snaps on defense and special teams due to his motor and instincts. He's a candidate, with Chambliss, for big special teams responsibilities.
Toward the end of camp, Price really emerged as a viable return option with upside as a receiver. He returned a kickoff 81 yards against the Patriots and gained 28 yards on a punt return at the Titans that was nullified by a penalty. He also zoomed across the field to make a touchdown-saving tackle in the contest against New England. Offensively, Price flashed with a 3-yard touchdown catch against the Texans.

Perhaps the longest shot to make the roster, Williams, made it next to impossible not to keep him. Williams was invited to try out at Minnesota's rookie minicamp in May and proceeded to impress at every stage. In three preseason games, he scored three defensive grades greater than 67.0 and tallied eight pressures. He also dazzled on a kickoff at Tennessee, throwing his 270-pound frame into a returner for a tackle that caused his teammates to erupt in excitement on the sideline.
Williams was discovered by defensive backs coach Daronte Jones when he visited his alma mater Morgan State.
In recent years, the Vikings have succeeded in identifying talented undrafted players and recruiting them to a culture and environment that is widely respected – and designed to foster growth and opportunity.
Ivan Pace, Jr. (UDFA class of 2023), and Dwight "Nudie" McGlothern and Bo Richter (both 2024) are fine examples of under-the-radar players who defied their nonexistent draft slots to garner roster spots.

I'd add OL as well.  Maybe we trade Brandel, but not expecting any major changes there.

I think there'll be some roster additions/shuffling today. Some of these UDFAs that made the roster might be cut. Don't expect anything earth shattering as here is the waiver order, expect the garbage to have already been picked through:

Yeah, I thought that was a bit strange too. 7 UDFAs making the roster can mean they’re good at identifying obscure talent. Or it can mean the bottom of their roster is so weak, they’ve been replaced by players who weren’t even good enough to be drafted.

It’s probably a mix a both. I doubt the future is too bright for the likes of Tim Jones and Myles Price, but there was some real talent flashed by Williams, Brosmer and Huber.
