Bengals Waive Waynes

The #Bengals are releasing CB Trae Waynes, saving $10.8M in cap space. Waynes signed a big 3-year, $42M deal in 2020, but he ended up playing just 243 snaps for Cincinnati. A big-time disappointment.

Trae Waynes made approximately $31M playing 243 snaps for the #Bengals.

It really was a disaster from the very start. Both sides move on in the most obvious major transaction in recent team history.

Waynes was decent for us - IMO - obviously not worth the money he got from Cincy.  It was a good decision to move on from him and not pay the big bucks.  Same for Rhodes.

They hit their peak in 2017-2018.   Both fell off tremendously after that.

I mean, if he wants to show up on the minimum it probably would make sense to bring him back. Injuries have derailed him but he was actually half-decent in the snaps he played last year.

I like incentive laden prove it deals for players coming back from injury.

He’d be a low risk potential high reward pickup if he came cheap. He’s legitimately a pretty good corner, but he’s always injured. Can he shake the bug? For the right price, it may be worthwhile to find out.

Waynes has top end speed that can cover the deep third in man.

I hope he returns.

The only thing Waynes has is speed.  He certainly can't cover.  His last year with the Vikings in 2019 he was targeted 96 times in coverage and gave up 71 completions, that is a completion percentage allowed of 74%.  He is 31 years old and more than likely on the downside of his career.  The Vikings need to stay far away from this guy.

Grey---that doesn't sound like a ratio I'd be interested in---let someone else pay his swansong run
