Nearly every team in the NFL leaves their #3 as a developmental project (ala Brosmer). If people wanna kid themselves into thinking the Vikings just re-signed the guy that they believed in to be the #2 last year and a Starter at one point to just hang out on the sideline and not dress this season and be the back up to the back up…go right ahead. Reality is likely to prove otherwise
That's just silly. You have two of the three players that have had significant injury issues and the third (Wentz) coming off an injury. Wentz signed for $1.42M, Murray signed for $1.3M and JJM is signed for 5.46M. All together, the QB's will cost Minny $8.18M. Sam Darnold is making $33.5M per year by himself. Daniel Jones just signed a contract for $44M per year. The team is hedging its bets this year for less than 1/4 of what the new teams are paying those guys this year (not counting their backups).

Ok man....you're right. We're spending a fifth of our remaining cap space on a 3rd string QB that won't even dress if things go right.
sure

I mean, sort of. But that aside. Anyone that doesn't see the Wentz re-signing as a massive red flag where JJ is concerned is in absolute denial. It's actual WILFUL ignorance.

The lesson we learned last year, was that it’s tough to bring a guy in last minute and get them fully up to speed.
While I agree that most teams aren’t stacking QBs 3 deep with legit backups, most teams don’t have the luxury of doing it as cheaply as we are. Also most teams suck, They latch onto one QB, figure that if they’re down to their QB2 or 3, their season is lost anyway, and their coaches/GMs are getting fired when the one QB they tried fails to be good enough.
If you accept the premise of what KOC actually says, which is that they want a deep QB room, and that it’s an actual competition, I really like what they’re doing. It’s when everyone tries to read between the lines, that things start to fall apart for me.

I'll repeat what I posted a few pages back:
2 of the last 3 seasons, we've started 3+ QBs.
Murray and Wentz are insanely cheap veteran QBs, JJM's still on his rookie deal.
Ignoring those facts is "DETERMINED" ignorance.
KOC, JJM, Flores...make a good plan, or you'll be following Kwesi....

Wentz made $1.4 million last year
Murray is going to make $1.3 million
JJ between his salary and pro-rated bonus is $4.2 million with a roster bonus of $1.7 million.
So the whole kit and kaboodle for $8.7 million approximately. Nobody is getting cut because of salary in 2026, lol. At any one time, DeShaun Watson has at least that much in his couch cushions.

That's the thing...I DON'T accept the premise of ANYTHING KOC says. I think he is the bullshittiest bullshitter there is. I don't think you will ever get a square answer by listening to anything he says in the press. I can only go off of what the Vikings are doing personnel-wise and evaluate it against the entire history of the NFL.
And unless KOC and this front office are going against the grain of the history of the NFL, then the Wentz move speaks VOLUMES

The magic...if things go right. If things didn't go right...we're trotting out Max Brosmer again. I sure don't want to see the sequel. Leave him on the practice squad and let him develop for a few years. Wentz' salary is just above the vet minimum and he knows the system. Wentz, JJM and KM all have injury concerns. We're hedging against the return of Brosmer.

The Vikings are paying Wentz money that ranks 57th among QBs. His salary falls between Josh Johnson and Jake Browning. It’s a QUARTER of what teams are paying backups like Trubisky, Bangent, Dalton, Dobbs, and HALF what teams are paying QBs like Howell, Huntley and Mullens. It's still the cheapest QB room in the NFL.
So I don't think the Wentz signing signals anything, other than building a deep QB room, which is what KOC has been promising us for a month. I could be wrong though. It happened once in the late 90s.
I do recognize that it's possible the Vikings trade McCarthy. I still think it's unlikely, but I do think it's possible. If they do, I think they're going to want someone better than Wentz at QB2.
