Why isn't Chuck Foreman in the Hall of Fame?

I think it’s hard for them to make it work in a contract that’s palatable for both Murray and the Vikings.
Any contract they sign can’t pay him guaranteed money this year. So signing bonuses, roster bonuses, etc are off the table. I don’t really know the rules, and I doubt anyone thoroughly knows the rules, but I think you can guarantee his base salary next year, but it’s kind of cap unfriendly to have all his guaranteed money tied up in base salaries. I lowkey think there’s pressure by the NFL to not violate the spirit of the rules, because they’d probably be forced to create new rules to prevent teams from exploiting the loopholes.

I think a slow-dance, one year is good, I can live with that...
I reserve the right to lament typing that if he has an MVP type year and we made it much harder on ourselves again at QB. One year also keeps the door more open (imo) with JJM and gives us another year to evaluate him on the field and in practices. ' Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!

Reportedly, the Vikings did bring up the idea of a 2nd year, but it was turned down. Vikings had to know he wouldn't accept that, so it's interesting to me they even brought it up. It should have been fairly obvious to them that Murray's whole idea is to play a year in a terrific surround and hit the market again next spring.

Vikings Central
@VikesCentral · 29m They’re trading Penix. Am I doing this right? Quote Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter · 30m Another QB to add with Michael Penix and Tua Tagovailoa; twitter.com/jfowlerespn/st… VikingzFanPage @vikingzfanpage · 4m #Vikings QB JJ McCarthy is back in Minnesota, and “seems to have every intention of being here,” @BenGoessling mentioned via @KFAN1003 . McCarthy was not blindsided by the QB moves, and doesn’t seem to want out of Minnesota: “I have not heard steam to corroborate that (trade request).” There is massively deep pool of NFL owners who want a consistently injured rookie QB who put up the 2nd worst stats ever for a QB.
Based on data from November 2025 regarding his first season with the Minnesota Vikings, J.J. McCarthy was statistically ranked among the worst-performing quarterbacks in recent NFL history, with several metrics placing him as the second-worst in his category. Key "Second Worst" Statistics (As of Nov 2025): EPA per Dropback: McCarthy was ranked 851st out of 852 qualified passers since 2000, trailing only JaMarcus Russell. On-Target Throw Percentage: Since 2019, his on-target throw rate ranked second-to-last among roughly 350 quarterback-seasons, trailing only Anthony Richardson's 2024 performance. Hero Throw Rate: He was ranked 2nd worst in "Hero Throw Rate" through his first four starts. Contextual Stats from 2025 Season: Passer Rating: Recorded a 61.7 rating, lowest in the league at that time. Game High: Recorded a 34.2 passer rating against the Packers on Nov 23, 2025. Performance: Reports highlighted a 12-19, 87-yard, 0 TD, 2 INT game (14.9 rating) in November 2025.

It hasn't been pretty to put it kindly. Hell, its been hard on him, the players and fans...I'm not sure Murray would be here right now if the opposite were true. Ive also seen stats where he's been compared to Mayes first year and the similarities are striking. I still got hope he's going to turn out, but that hill got steeper for sure. Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!

So in the above stats, are we comparing JJM in his first (6?) games against other QBs in their first (6?) games, or they comparing his first (6?) games to other QBs first 17 games, or first 3 seasons, or their whole career? I'd imagine that for most QBs their first 5,6,8, 10 ( whatever number) or going to be their worst. Then over time, they get used to game speed. They get used to what they can or can't get away with. Like, you wouldn't compare how good your first grader can read to how good the second graders can read, and then start calling them dumb because the second graders are better readers, because duh. I just kind of felt like the media did that to JJM midseason, and was curious if that was actually true. |
