That is likely what the Ravens are doing. That said, they've opened themselves up to some team offering a stupid contract and being left without a QB if the structure doesn't fit within their cap planning.
I think the Ravens and Lamar are at an impasse on his value. Part of that is Jackson trying to negotiate his own contract without an agent. Too many emotions when the player is the one having these discussions.
Jackson has some limitations as a passer, but he more than makes up for it with his big play ability. It's going to be interesting to see how this plays out.
Does Lamar at 45 or 50 allow for the marked improvements to the D? Not likely,, Or a more consistent running game? Possibly.
He would immediately make our OL pass pro look better as he provides the mobility that KC just doesn't have, but IMO he is a step backwards in passing ability.
I think he improves the position, but likely at the expense of improving the team much over all, so despite it being an exciting move, I doubt this makes us SB contenders for the next 5 to 7 years.

Absolutely. The Ravens and Jackson couldn’t agree on his value. Now the market will dictate what he’s actually worth and I’d be 100% surprised if they didn’t match it.

Not to mention he doesn’t have an agent. Theres a lot riding on him not getting the richest deal ever. Imagine if athletes found out the dont need an agent?

Yeah this seems to be what's happening but all it takes is one owner to say screw it, like the Browns did with Watson.
To @JimmyinSD's point, it would be expensive for sure. Paying a QB what Lamar wants means you need to nail a lot of your draft picks. Unfortunately the Vikings would be without a first or second this year, and a first next year. It would be a gamble for sure and we're far from in perfect position to do it. That doesn't mean Lamar isn't worth it though. The jersey sales alone would be crazy bank for ownership. As far as on field-- yes we'd have to trade Kirk for hopefully a 3rd then use all of the picks we can muster to add cost-controlled talent to the defense. Dalvin and Adam would be gone. Trading Hunter for a 2nd would hurt, but might be necessary. It WOULD make the Vikings fun, it MIGHT make the Vikings contenders. Definitely not a guarantee. But we aren't really contenders now so there isn't much downside IMO.
I don't think it will happen, mostly due to dadevike's theory above, but also because I think Baltimore will move heaven and earth to match any offer. But seeing Lamar flying around US Bank the way Vick did against us in the Dome so many years ago would be a helluva lot of fun. Hockenson would put up Andrews numbers and JJ's stats would be even more out of this world, methinks.

a contract? Like if you sign him
tomorrow, can Baltimore wait until after the draft to let you know if they’re
matching? Can they wait until 5 minutes
before the draft so you don’t know if you have your 1st round pick
for this year or not?

You would also have to hope that Lamar doesn't suffer a significant injury as running QBs are prone to do. I think that also has played into the Ravens reluctance to commit to a guaranteed contract, Lamar has missed games the past couple of seasons due to injury.
