Ryan Kelly

And from the sounds of it, both Darrisaw and O’Neill should play, giving the Vikings its healthiest line of the year, with only Ryan Kelly remaining out. And Kelly’s mandatory 4-game absence ends with this game, meaning he can return next week against the Ravens if he’s up to it. The question is…will he?

I have no idea what’s going on with Kelly, and it sounds like nobody else does either. It’s been radio silence from that camp. I think if he were going to retire, he would’ve done that 4 weeks ago. Is there a financial angle to it? Is there a benefit to resting his brain another week, or two, or 4? No clue. But I tend to think he needs to make a decision after the Lions game. Either go on season-ending IR, retire, or get out there and play.

He can just stay on IR as long as he needs to.  He's not forced to come off IR or anything.  I don't think there's any real rush to make a decision, is there?  He does have a 760k roster bonus (which breaks down to 45k a game on a per game basis).  Not really enough to jeopardize his future health over.

His grades are not lighting it up:

GAME      PFF GRADE
Chargers (Week 8) 41.0
Eagles (Week 7) 51.1
Browns (Week 5) 41.0

At some point it transitions to season-ending IR. After the 4 weeks, a 21-day practice window opens. If he's not activated during that time, he goes on season-ending IR.

I tend to think this is a Kelly-only decision and the team's medical staff is out of it. It's not a pain issue. It's not a mobility issue. It's not even really a time issue. It's a vulnerability issue and there's no predicting that. He could take the year off and then suffer another concussion on his first snap in 2026. He could also start against the Ravens and go another two years without one.

My only point is that the Vikings probably need a little clarity from Kelly on the matter because it's his decision and his alone.

Actually it is a time issue.  The effects of concussions can linger.  Coming back too soon and getting a second concussion when he wasn't healed is why he is on IR.

I assume he is close to coming back, if not, like you said, he should retire.

We held one of my boys out his senior year because he ended the year with a concussion, then had a minor accident and smacked his head on the windshield.  He wasn't right for about 6 weeks.  Still has memory issues.

I don’t think you have it quite right.

They have to miss at least 4 weeks.  At some point you designate them for return.  Then they have a maximum of 21 days to practice before they must be put on the active roster or placed on season ending IR.

Kinda leaning that we get smoked as well.  Gives me an excuse to be home at a decent time to watch the game though!!

Heard last night Darrisaw was a DNP yesterday and it wasn't a day of rest, he couldnt/wouldn't go and as such the conversation was about his willingness/desire to get back out there and team maybe needing to make other plans at LT for the future. ( listening to KFan)
Why isn't Chuck Foreman in the Hall of Fame?

I sure hope this isn't the case and it's KFAN being KFAN instead.

That's right. He didn't practice yesterday.

I am starting to think Darrisaw's knee issues are more mental than physical.
