Browns just acquired a sieve

Time to look ahead to next week in London:

Texans trade LT Cam Robinson to Browns

Reports emerged recently that Cleveland was looking to trade for an offensive tackle.

It turns out, those reports were accurate.

The Browns are acquiring Cam Robinson from the Texans, according to multiple reports.

Robinson started the first game of the season for Houston, but was replaced by Aireontae Ersery in Week 2. While he played select snaps on special teams in Week 2 and Week 3, Robinson was inactive for the Texans’ Sunday victory over the Titans.

A second-round pick in 2017, Robinson played all of his first seven seasons with the Jaguars. But he was traded to Minnesota midway through the 2024 season when the club lost left tackle Christian Darrisaw to a year-ending injury.

Robinson subsequently signed with Houston on a one-year contract in March.

The Browns started the season with Dawand Jones at left tackle, but he suffered a season-ending injury in Week 3. Right tackle Jack Conklin has also been dealing with an elbow injury.

Cleveland is sending a 2027 sixth-round pick and will receive Houston’s 2027 seventh-round pick to complete the deal.

Robinson has started 102 career games.

I did find myself all nostalgic for Robinson after watching Skule's performance so far. I'm a little misty eyed for Big Cam right now as I write this...lol

I actually thought Robinson was a serviceable replacement for Darrisaw last season and played pretty well. Surprised he fell out of favor in Houston so quickly

I think he looked better early,  but regressed as the season went on,  but its not really fair to compare anybody that fills in for CD as the benchmark is set pretty damn high.  they are back ups for a reason, I think its comical that people expect the same level of player or even close to that type of play from a reserve guy.  if they were even close to as good,  they would be starting some where else.

And yet on the Tampa Bay Bucs Skule looked at least average.

which is why I think the  vikings offense woes have to do with play calling , or koc trying to do too much with back up personnel;

thats likely a large part of it, he doesnt dial it back to account for the decrease in skill/experience/cohesion he has on the field.

I don't think it's that simple. There are probably a dozen different candidates to point the finger at. Should KOC have more quick-game options? Yeah, I think so, under the circumstances. But I keep coming back to this play. This IS a quick play; it's a 3-step drop. It's also an easy touchdown we've seen a hundred times from Cousins, Darnold...hell even Nick Mullens. But here, the center is new, the QB is new and it just fails for those reasons.

Cam Robinson trade could be good news for Vikings' comp pick outlook

"But salary isn't the only factor in the compensatory pick formula. Playing time also matters; players need to hit snap thresholds in order for their contract to be valued a certain way.

That's why this trade is good news in that sense. The Browns are acquiring Robinson to play. Starting left tackle Dawand Jones is out for the season, and backup KT Leveston has been terrible. Robinson figures to step into that role right away and provide an upgrade with his proven floor in pass protection. If he stays healthy and holds onto the job, he'll likely earn the Vikings a fifth-round comp pick or perhaps even a fourth-rounder."
