ANTHONY HILL, Texas (6-2, 239, 4.55, 3-4): Third-year junior started 32 of 40 games. “He got a lot of hype,” one scout said. “Off the body and the athletic ability he was a 5-star, and you could probably say that about him now,” said one scout. “But as an inside backer there isn’t great take-on. As an outside backer, not just a pure edge rusher. He’s sort of caught between and not really great at either one. He isn’t super instinctive. I don’t want to ding him too bad.” Finished with 249 tackles (31 ½ for loss), 17 sacks, three interceptions and eight forced fumbles. “He’s tricky,” a third scout said. “He’s got some biomechanical issues that he might not ever be a good tackler in space.” From Denton, Texas. “I couldn’t get excited about this guy,” a fourth scout said. “They moved him all over the place but he doesn’t play physical. He doesn’t really trigger and get to the ball. He floats around and it kind of gets him to the play. You’ll hear he’s a great athlete but I don’t see that at all. Just an average athlete. Best thing he does is zone coverage. Has a good feel for that. Third round.”

When I hear not instinctive for a LB, I’m out.

This must be from Grigson's scouts because I'm not sure how anyone can call Hill an "average athlete" or "not super instinctive" after leading Texas in tackles as a true freshman and seeing the overall numbers he produced in three seasons. Like I said, someone is going to get a steal if he drops into the mid second round.

He can play off-ball but does he have the take-on or the instincts to do that in the NFL? He can rush the passer, but he's not really an edge either. Or will the fact that he can do both appeal to a guy like Flores who values versatility more than anything?

That's just it and I think for a guy like Flores, Hill would appeal even more because of his versatility and being able to stick a big athlete in the middle of your defense who can play all over the field, is instinctive and excels in zone coverage. I think his ability to blitz from anywhere and get to the quarterback would also be appealing. Flores doesn't use the typical "big thumpers" at the linebacker position and we saw that last year with Pace taking a seat and Wilson taking his position. You see what Flores did with Wilson, imagine the things he could scheme up with a guy like Hill.

And again, this is why I'm advocating for trading Greenard. If you can add another high to mid second round pick, or maybe even a late 1st from a team like New England with some change thrown in, you do it. I think it's hard to imagine for some without attaching names to it, but if you have three of the top 49 picks in this draft and you can parlay them into, say; Jordyn Tyson, Caleb Banks, and Anthony Hill...I think starting to build a young core of talent is more important than keeping Greenard, his new contract, and a snap split with Dalls Turner.

Unlike last year, the Minnesota Vikings will have plenty of options to bring in young talent, as they have far more picks going into the 2026 NFL Draft.

One position of interest for the Vikings is at defensive tackle as they look to rebuild their defensive line after several losses in the offseason. Minnesota had to release veterans Jonathan Allen and Javon Hargrave to save money against the cap.

Minnesota has a target in mind already in the draft, as Essentially Sports' NFL analyst Tony Pauline reported that the Vikings have a 30-minute visit with Iowa State defensive tackle Dom Orange. As a third-team All-Big 12 selection last year, Orange had 18 tackles and one pass deflection with the Cyclones.

There have been some questions about Orange because he was unable to work out at the NFL Combine. Pauline shared how he did in his most recent workout for NFL teams.

"Orange measured 6-foot-2 and 321 pounds, hit 31.5 inches in the vertical jump, completed 27 reps on the bench, and ran the 40 once, timing 5.15 seconds, though he did pull up after 35 yards due to tightness in his hamstring.

His 10-yard split came in between 1.68 and 1.70 seconds, a terrific mark. His short shuttle time of 4.65 seconds was also impressive."

The top guy on the defensive line at tackle is Jalen Redmond, who has emerged as one of the most underrated in the NFL. Minnesota also has Levi Drake Rodriguez and Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins as potential starters as well for 2026.

There is a chance the Vikings could look on Day 1 or 2 for a defensive tackle. If they are looking for a sleeper pick on Day 3, Orange fits that description.

While Orange won't be a pass rusher in the NFL, his run-stopping skills are solid, and he can cause disruption without the stats showing it. Throw him in the middle of the line on first and second down to stop the run, and he could do well in that role.

The 2026 season will most likely feature a lot of Vikings rookies getting significant playing time, and Orange would be a solid rotational player on the team if Minnesota selects him.

I think flores values IQ more than anything.  That kind of fits with versatility, but is more than just physically able to play more than one position.  Having the smarts to do it well, changing responsibilities from one play to the next, or even within the play.

If they are looking for a sleeper pick on Day 3, Orange fits that description.

I'd be surprised if Orange were still on the board on day three. If we go elsewhere in the 1st, I like Orange as early as the 2nd round, no later than the 3rd.
