My favorite false narrative from 2 years ago on JJM
#1
His arm strength. Honest to God, LMFAO. F-ing Greg Cosell, one of the biggest dipshits out there....and Colin Cowherd's buddy. Not sure any analyst could come to this conclusion unless they never watched 10 minutes of video on McCarthy, but that's the snake oil Cosell was selling. Was 1 MPH behind at the Combine of Joe Milton, who's a complete animal. All we hear now in Eagan is how JJM has to pull something off this fastball because the ball won't be catchable.

Anyway, I mention it because its one of those crazy false narratives that get out into the universe and people glom on.

I thought that was strange, too, as it seemed like we got blather about his lack of arm strength and his 2nd to Josh Allen ball velocity at the same time.

Kind of like this year, it seems like some people need to create reasons to dislike the kid. If he can keep up the momentum from the past two weeks through the next 3, those people can spend the offseason shutting the F up...!
OK, KOC, time for that miracle....

I think Cosell took the "truish" fact that McCarthy was a system QB at Michigan and filled out a full narrative based on the characteristics of typical system QBs. So in his eyes, McCarthy was not a downfield passer and didn't have standout tools, like arm strength, plus mobility, etc. But in this case, McCarthy was not a system QB because of his limitations. He was a system QB because that's what Harbaugh wanted him to be.

Yep, and I think that's what KOC and the coaching staff are having to rewire, along with getting mechanics improvements. The kid has the physical tools and more attitude than we've seen in a Vikings QB...maybe ever. If...HUGE IF...he keeps growing through these last few games, then leans into offseason improvements, he could be genuinely scary to opponents next season.

One thing I think, but didn't really know how to talk about, is how much new fatherhood is likely slowing some things down. I remember being a new Dad eons ago, and it was a huge mental and emotional change for me. It's not an excuse for the kid, but it is a realistic consideration.

I like how JJM himself describers his journey moving forward...

How to become a passer of the football - cause he's already pretty good with piss missiles.

Once the kid can learn to feather/layer/throw that #2, #3 ball? Then we really got something.

Fingers crossed he gets there.

I think he's already starting to do that a little more. There have been a few 2 and 3 balls. I just think his 1 ball is a little hotter than anyone is used to, and maybe a little hotter than it needs to be. Elway struggled with this early on too.

I was thinking along a similar line with the new Dad bit,   but from a different angle.... the kids been a stud his whole life,  likely never had to go more than a day without getting laid.... well after the baby comes that all gets put on the back burner for a 6 weeks or so.  I'm going to say that he finally got laid and the mental block was removed and now he's back to being able to focus on football and not worrying if he would ever get a piece of ass again.

Cool

This shows that not all the best passes are caught...and not all the caught passes are best. If'n that makes sense.

But why not just tell the truth? Whatever that is. Just say that. Was that pass to Addison a horrible pass? Absolutely not. Was it understandably underthrown? Given the pressure, yes. But was it right on the money? No.
