  Myles Garrett Is Over It
Posted by: pattersaur - 02-03-2025, 11:17 AM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (26)

Superstar DE Myles Garrett wrote up a nice note thanking Cleveland for the smiles and (mostly) cries, and officially requested a trade.

Soooo... Dallas Turner for Myles who says no? Tongue  Or can we somehow pair them together?? Or does this 99.9% chance have nothing to do with us? Probably, but big news regardless.

Cleveland is in a freefall.

EDIT: Thanks @Canthony for correcting me. Originally I kept calling Garrett, Myles Turner. Whoops.

  Scramblin' Fran
Posted by: NorseFeathers - 02-01-2025, 07:36 AM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (1)

I just watched this documentary about the life of Fran Tarkenton on ESPN and it's worth watching if you have never seen it.  It first aired in 2018 but was recorded before that. It referred to Brady breaking one of his records in 2017, a record that was 40 years old.

Through the decades, I had soured on Fran. It's a good chance I had soured because we never won the Super Bowl and I subconsciously blamed the QB. This documentary changed that.

I don't remember Fran's 1st tenure with the Vikings and really don't remember him as a Giant. I became a Vikings fan somewhere around 1970. Fran was traded back to the Vikings in 1972. This documentary reminded me of why I fell in love with the Vikings and brought back a bunch of memories. Some good, some ... not so much. Fran is a very likable guy, a lot tougher than I had ever given him credit.

"Scramblin' Fran" is scheduled to air again today on ESPNews at 1:30 eastern if anyone cares to watch or record it.

Love got $55m/year, $160mm guarantee
Lawrence at $55m/year, $200mm guarantee
Dak $60m/year, $231mm guarantee

49'ers are going to have to pay dearly for Brock...

Kinda ratches-up the urgency to get JJM out there on that rook $$

  Are we set at Kicker?
Posted by: purplefaithful - 01-31-2025, 05:29 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (9)

Or at least comfortable enough going into next season?

I was a huge fan of the Reichard pick, dont want another Carlson situation.

But I wouldn't be honest with myself, if I didnt acknowledge some doubt creeping into my mind as the season progressed..

Maybe its just kicker ptsd

Pelissero: Most Logical is Darnold Staying in Minn
Posted by: MaroonBells - 01-30-2025, 03:02 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (72)

It seems every so-called "insider" has a completely different take on this topic.

Tom Pelissero:

"I would say on paper the most logical outcome of this is Sam Darnold still in Minnesota. JJ McCarthys missed his entire rookie season coming off knee surgery. They believe in him. They're not trading J.J. McCarthy. But there's no precedent for a guy missing an entire year of reps as a rookie and coming back and playing again like it hasn't happened," he said.

All I know is Sam Darnold played the best football of his career under Kevin O'Connell. The last two games notwithstanding it makes sense for Sam Darnold. All things equal to come back it makes sense for the Vikings to bring him back. They won 14 games with him. .... They also have the franchise tag at their disposal if they choose to use it," he added.

  Mock Draft Simulator
Posted by: Canthony - 01-29-2025, 05:32 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (5)

Sorry to start a thread on this. Does anyone remember the draft simulator that we all used years back. Where it gave you an overall grade at the end of your mock draft? I have been looking for it. I liked that set up.

  Ratings Juggernaut Continues
Posted by: purplefaithful - 01-28-2025, 02:27 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (22)

Sunday's AFC Championship Game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills drew huge ratings for the NFL and CBS.

According to Puck's John Ourand, the game averaged 57.7 million viewers, making it the most-watched AFC Championship Game since at least 1988.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs outlasted quarterback Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills, winning the game 32-29 to advance to a third consecutive Super Bowl.

Ourand noted that Chiefs vs. Bills was also the most-watched non-Super Bowl game since the Minnesota Vikings vs. New Orleans Saints NFC Championship Game during the 2009 season.

Additionally, this year's AFC Championship Game viewership was up 4 percent from last year's game between the Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens.
