Bridgwater could be back on practice field in one week...

Teddy Bridgewater's return to practice field appears nearThe injured quarterback will be eligible to come back next week, and Vikings are said to be planning that.

The Vikings can get quarterback Teddy Bridgewater back on the practice field after next Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers, once he has been on the physically-unable-to-perform list for six weeks. It sounds as if Bridgewater could be on track to return soon.
sources said the Vikings have been planning to get Bridgewater on the practice field soon after Week 6, provided his rehabilitation continues without setbacks. The quarterback’s return from a dislocated left knee and a torn ACL is said to be going well, and provided Bridgewater gets through the next week without any issues, he could practice the following week.
At that point, the Vikings would have a three-week window to decide whether to return Bridgewater to their active roster or keep him on the PUP list for the remainder of the season. That decision would likely hinge on how Bridgewater handles the three weeks of practice, recovers from the work sessions and handles any unforeseen obstacles. If all goes well, it’s conceivable he could be on the active roster by the second half of the season.

As I watched Case's presser after the loss to the Lions...  I thought he looked a lot like Ben Affleck during the Batman V Superman "famous" interview, so I made this.

Bills make big strides under new DC Leslie Frazier
Posted by: purplefaithful - 10-08-2017, 02:18 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (3)

Bills make big strides under new defensive coordinator Leslie FrazierPeople forget that Leslie Frazier's defenses ranked in the top eight in yards allowed three times when he was Vikings defensive coordinator.

The Vikings fired Frazier after the 2013 season. By then, his defense had dropped to last in the league in points allowed (30.0).
But people forget that Frazier’s defenses also ranked in the top eight in yards allowed three times when he was Vikings defensive coordinator. They also led the league in run defense twice.
Through a quarter of this NFL season, the two biggest surprises are the offensively supercharged Rams (3-1) and the stingy Bills (3-1). The Bills lead the league in fewest points allowed (13.5). The closest challenger is Pittsburgh at 14.8.
Frazier still plays a lot of Cover 2, but he and McDermott have put their heads together to create a more aggressive version of what Frazier employed toward the end in Minnesota.
A good example came early on in Sunday’s upset victory in Atlanta. The Falcons are one of the toughest teams in the league to stop on the opening drives of games, and a lot of other times as well...

Fickle fans are quick to embrace local sports figures, and even quicker to spurn them

Five local sports figures that find themselves on the wrong side of public opinion, and wrongly.
OCTOBER 6, 2017 — 9:30PM

The passion for sports in this area has been questioned occasionally through the decades, including by me. You see 10,000 empty seats in a smallish Big Ten football stadium for a new coach’s conference opener and that idea can be reinforced.
One of the main fascinations in covering sports here has been to watch as fans make their decisions on important figures — sometimes without wavering, other times changing with the wind.

Here’s a handful of sports figures who seem to find themselves currently on the wrong side of public opinion:

Rick Spielman: The Vikings general manager has had full authority to bring in personnel since 2011, one year before getting the GM title. Fans still like to throw Christian Ponder at Spielman from that draft, even though the statute of limitations has expired.
There have been other misses for Spielman, but in truth, he has accumulated a defense with seven stars on it, and the offensive limitations can be traced more to injuries than draft failures.
One accusation is Spielman surrendered too much to bring in Sam Bradford from Philadelphia after Teddy Bridgewater’s injury. That’s as preposterous as the ongoing suggestion that the Twins should not have given a huge contract to reigning MVP Joe Mauer, a couple of weeks before they moved into a new ballpark in 2010.
The 2016 Vikings were coming off an 11-5 season, they had the potential to repeat as NFC Central champs, and a competent quarterback was a must to make that happen.
Anybody questioning the Bradford trade when they started 5-0?
Spielman did what he had to do to give the Vikings a shot. There were injuries, yes, and also a coach in Mike Zimmer who got far from the best out of his roster down the stretch.
There’s no good reason for Spielman to be in trouble, other than the possibility the rumors are true that he’s not a favorite of team President Kevin Warren.
