Vikings quarterback Kyle Sloter’s ears are burning
Posted by: purplefaithful - 12-12-2017, 11:54 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (9)

They say the most popular player on any NFL team is the backup quarterback. In Denver, it might be the undrafted rookie quarterback the Broncos waived in September.
After a 35-9 loss to the Miami Dolphins on Dec. 3 extended Denver’s losing streak to eight, a lonely voice tweeted in the wilderness.
“Where are you Kyle Sloter? #Broncos.”
He’s in Minnesota, the third-stringer in a crowded quarterback room with starter Case Keenum and backup Teddy Bridgewater as the Vikings (10-3) march toward the postseason.
“I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else,” Sloter said last week.
The Vikings pounced on Sloter when the Broncos waived him to make room for free agent Brock Osweiler, brought back as depth when he was cut by Cleveland. One of three quarterbacks to play for the Broncos this season, Osweiler is 0-3 in three starts.
Sloter, of course, is undefeated, his entire NFL career comprising four preseason games, during which he completed 31 of 43 attempts and three touchdowns without an interception.
“Broncos definitely should have held onto Kyle Sloter at the beginning of the season,” tweeted another unsatisfied customer.
Yes, Kyle Sloter’s ears are burning, and because no one ever sees him practice, the chatter is universally positive.

Reports: Packers asking other experts to evaluate Aaron Rodgers...

Reports: Packers asking other experts to evaluate Aaron Rodgers, others weighing risk/reward of his return

Aaron Rodgers wants to come back this season and play spoiler. The decision might not be entirely his to make. The Packers’ superstar quarterback had a scan done on his collarbone Monday morning, and the team is reportedly discussing the timeline for when Rodgers could return to the field.
NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport is reporting that the team and the QB are “at a crossroads” with the decision looming.
Rodgers could be activated this week, by NFL rule, but head coach Mike McCarthy didn’t exactly give an emphatic “YES!” when asked about a possible return.
According to the Rapoport report, there are “loud and protective voices who wonder if it’s worth putting him on the field to potentially injure himself again for a small chance at a great reward.”
Apparently the Packers team doctor sent those test results to mulitple experts for consultation, which is a common practice in Green Bay, according to the Associated Press. Here’s more from the AP report:
Quote:McKenzie will gather those recommendations, share them with Rodgers and the team’s football braintrust — coach Mike McCarthy, general manager Ted Thompson and vice president of football administration Russ Ball — and then they’ll determine how to proceed.
Whether that means Rodgers plays against the Panthers, or the Packers must continue their unlikely playoff push with backup quarterback Brett Hundley at the helm, hangs in the balance.
“It is now in the evaluation stage,” McCarthy said Monday afternoon during his usual day-after-the-game briefing — a news conference that was anything but typical given the subject matter. “Dr. McKenzie is reviewing it. There’s a number of medical opinions that will be involved in the decision, so at this time I do not have a clean decision for you — or an update. That’s where it stands.”
Vikings linebacker Anthony Barr delivered the blow that broke Rodger’s collarbone, during the Oct. 15 Vikings-Packers game. The QB had surgery four days later, and has teased football fans with on-field warm-up throws, which seemed to indicate that playing this season remained a possibility.
Stay tuned. The Packers — and the NFL and Rodgers and every party involved — will likely want an answer sooner than later.

What you need to know. - Net Neutrality
Posted by: Mike Olson - 12-12-2017, 03:39 PM - Forum: Sensitive Topics - Replies (22)

I don't often post here in Sensitive Topics. Frankly I've not even looked in here much.

But I need to share this with you because it is a pivotal pie3ce item that I believe goes beyond partisan politics and shakes the pillars of our country. The ability for government agencies to police the internet is a direct and targeted attack on the 1st amendment.

http://thehill.com/policy/technology/364336-fcc-ftc-announce-partnership-to-police-internet-after-net-neutrality-repeal

Quote:On Thursday, the FCC is expected to approve the plan to scrap the Obama-era consumer protections that prohibit internet service providers from discriminating against, or favoring, certain websites. Under the proposal, the FCC would get rid of the conduct rules governing broadband companies and cede authority over the industry to the FTC.

“The Memorandum of Understanding will be a critical benefit for online consumers because it outlines the robust process by which the FCC and FTC will safeguard the public interest,” FCC Chairman Ajit Pai said in a statement. “Instead of saddling the Internet with heavy-handed regulations, we will work together to take targeted action against bad actors.”
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced an agreement on Monday to coordinate their efforts to police the internet once the latter agency has repealed its net neutrality rules.

Did Wentz injury shift NFC Balance of Power?
Posted by: purplefaithful - 12-12-2017, 01:46 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (14)

How much less effective are the Eagles with Wentz out?  Chances are they'll still be #1 seed and playing at home. Their D is still good and Foles didnt look bad coming off the bench.

We'll see how effective he is when DC's can game plan him a bit more...

They were thoroughly handled by an inferior team on the road for 60 minutes, lost by a touchdown and their QB threw two picks. Now they are only 10-3. Their season is over.

Anyone hoping to see Teddy get some game action?
Posted by: eckman - 12-12-2017, 04:34 AM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (17)

Before anyone skews this to their own agenda I just want to say this is for sure Case’s team for the rest of the season, that boat has passed at this point.
Case has played much better than expected, i for one still question if he has what it takes to win the big one. ( I hope like hell he pulls it off).
I am hoping we got our seed locked up for the bears game so teddy can get a half to 3 quarters. He needs to get sone game time, what if case goes down in the playoffs? teddy comes in after not playing for how long? plus we need to plan for next year. Case or Teddy? tough call.
This season is going to kill me. Everything is lining up well for the vikes, if not this year when......
